Well I found out why the car seems a little sluggish..
I do not look forward to changeing the gaskets but I guess this would be a goodtime to clean up the engine compartment....

can anyone recomend a good headgasket for nitrous applications

Might want to consider a good competition valve job too...HO 5.0 short blocks tend to stay in great shape for a couple hundred thousand miles, so good sealing heads shouldn't lead to increased blow-by.

But hell, if you've got a few hundred or up to a thousand bucks to play with, get some decent aftermarket heads, or even GT-40's or something similar.

I have the edelbrock 60399 351w heads 170cc 2.02 1.60 60cc combustion chambers... I think these will work fine

what bore size do I need on the gasket if I have a 306?

bore size is 4.030,so the closest to that that you can find, without being smaller.

all the fel pro I find are 4.100 and larger will that be ok?

that will be fine.
you may want to check out the cometic mls gaskets as well, they might have something closer to your bore size.
it is also an excellent gasket.

Am I going to need new head bolts too?

if you have stock bolts now,yes...
if you already have a good(ARP) bolts, you can re-use them and it will be fine.
remember with the increased cyl pressure from the nitrous, you really want the head to clamp down good on the gasket/block.i would have them machined flat while its apart as well, just for extra insurance.

yeah another person recomended that also. I have to check the headbolts, if they are ARP or Edelbrock (wich are made by ARP) I will be ok. These heads have Head Bolt Bushings also so I will need to make sure those are ok..

I thought you were going to with boost instead of juice? Did I miss something or am I retarded? 50/50 chance :goof

070-254-3708 ARP Ford 289-302 Head Bolts, Windor Heads 1/2''-7/16'' stepped bolt, 1/2''-7/16''

Took it from Jegs site......these are the ones that I got for my GT40 aluminum heads. stepped in size so no bushings are needed for 1/2 inch holes in the head

I am going to boost it but it may take me awhile to get all the stuff I need together....

This is how far I got on the car today. Took me about 2.5hrs. Will finish the rest on sunday.

Question: if I unbolt the heads and bolt them right back on do I need to adjust the valves?

Was thinking as long as I have it this far apart maybe put a larger cam in..

YES!!! Cometic gaskets are your best bet, they can be reused up to 5 times.

fel-pros have worked better on the LS1's with high nitrous shots than the cometics. cometics have some leaking issues. i purchased some SCE Titan ICS gaskets with an integrated o-ring setup that are supposed to be decent, but then again, i'm talking to a couple guys that are shooting the 300+ shots and they are saying the new felpro's are still better.

i'd also splurge for the ARP stuff. hard to go wrong with that investment

i have guys running cometic gaskets on 6 second twin turbo ford engines and they have been used for 2 seasons. it all depends on the user and there setup i guess. as for nitrous i know tommy uses the titan SCE gasket on his race car, and you know that he sprays the world at it!

Multi Layer Steel headgaskets are awesome, but if your tuneup is wrong again, you may be replacing the shortblock....
Graphites are fine if you dont detonate it.
Been there, done that!:rolf I used to like to try and find the 'fine line' of my tuneups... now it just runs safe

I'm sure Sam has been told this also but Rick Anderson always suggested the cheap Fel-pros with stock shortblock cars as it acts as a fusible link so to speak. I would rather blow the gasket not the motor.

the other thing to think about is when it does lose a head gasket and sucks water into the cyl,it bends the con rod.....cheap gaskets are no good imo.

I've been down that road too... lol
Do like Andy and weld the heads to the block.

yeah, i'm gonna try something else and returned the titan's. alot of it i'm sure has to do with the tune on the car, and we know Tom pushed the envelope with it, so that's good. mike is still gonna use them. too many options nowadays anyways. i might live to regret what i'm getting, but oh well, can always change it later
