This is the Australian car manufacturer Holden's version of the Chevrolet LS1.

There are quite a few differences between the Holden and the LS1, like the water pump/timing cover, oil pan, distributor location, etc. and the obvious Australian made aftermarket 4 barrel intake.

This particular engine is a 355ci and made 520 hp.

there is nothing LS1 about that, cept the 4 ind ex ports and spark plug angles. looks like an 80's Holden motor....

Or even a distributer at all....

Does AU even have an engine all it's own? What engine is that?

Holden uses GM LS1 motors now. Back 60's till about '99 they also used their own v8.

yup.

from wikipedia
The Holden small block V8 was an all Australian designed and manufactured cast-iron 90 degree pushrod OHV engine, manufactured in the capacities of 4.2 L (253 in³), 5.0 L (308 in³), later destroked to 304 in³), and 5.7 L (348 in³). First introduced in 1969, finally ceasing production in 1999, it powered a variety of Holden vehicles including the Kingswood, Monaro, Torana and Commodore, and proved to be a popular and successful powerplant in Australian motorsport (especially Touring cars).

so it's their own, not a SBC. It shares similarities only in design, but we can say the same about the current Hemi and LS1.

8cyls :rolfwell, there is more than that...both have similar oil pump drives, similar raised roller cam hardware (if you can swap a cam in an LS1, you can do it as easily in a hemi), but beyond that, not much despite what some try to claim.

Some have tried to point out that the similar bore/stroke ratio's, bore centerlines, and rod/stroke ratio's constitutes a copy of the LS1 by the hemi...

...however, that's incorrect as the bore of the hemi is exactly the same as the old 318 that has been around since the mid 50's, and the stroke is the same as the old 360.

As far as rod/stroke ratio's are concerned, it continues the traditions of long rods in the mopar v8's since the 50's

And the bore centerlines are the same since the original A-blocks debut in the 50's, and are the same as the SBC that the LS engines continued as well at 4.4 inch bore centerlines.
