So I'm buying a new monitor last night at Best buy and the wife
says "lets look at TV's"......well that's one way to get my attention!

Anyway they had some awesome looking tv's there, a few I thought
looks outstanding in there showroom (new one by Mayfair) but after
reading reveiws those had crappy reveiws. High end big dollar ones
looked pale but had good reveiws. Where is a good plase to actualy
see them in operation, Im guessing Best buy is not on the list. Hell I
dont even know what I want other than a REALY nice picture in a
42" or so. They had 50" Mitz projection that would rival most anything
I could see but wife ruled out the size, some generic plasma again
would smoke the Sony next to it.........argh!

I have a 32" Dell LCD that is awesome. Have it hanging in the bedroom. Works great with the Digital Cable. I think that there are some Dell Kiosks in some of the malls.

They rarely have them tuned properly, that's why some generic one can look better out of the box than a high-end one.

You can have someone come to your house and tweak all the settings for a decent price, well worth the money says my brother.

The only thing that I know is that I will only get an LCD and the damm thing better play in 1080P and measure at least 42" or bigger and have a damm good warranty. After that, I could care less about brands.

Flanners had great side by side comparisons all with great pictures.
American had stuff scatterd all over, some walls look bad next to
other groups. Again like Best buy some high dollar Plasmas looked
bad next generic names.

Narrowed it down to a 42" Plasma.......beyond that you realy cant
go wrong but the more you spend the better it looks. The Maxient
is probably the surprise low dollar entry with a GREAT picture no
matter where you look.

Comparisons are all relative in a store. Even at flanners, American & Best Buy the feeds to the TV's are not identical- sorry but its very real that there may be deviations in signal with side by side picture store demos. I've set up more than my share of store demos up & I can assure you of that- even where I'm at now it holds true.
Take a step back- What are you going to be watching on it?- gaming systems? , DVD?, a VCR? HD channels (channel 500 & up for Time Warner), digital channels (100 & higher), basic channels ( channels 2-100)? How much light is in the room? Are you going to be viewing the TV from an extreme angle? If you want 1080P- do you really know why you want it & is it practical FOR YOU on this TV?

Seems like pointless or interrogating Q's, but this is what I do & I sell and install things only once. Not saying you have to get something through me, but camshafts aren't camshafts either. Answer those questions and it'll make your choices that much easier.

Seems like pointless or interrogating Q's,

I tried PMing you, BCM was kinda screwy that night.
I've been online reading everything I can, excellent questions
and I beleive I have answerd them all...I think.

I want the true color reproduction Plasma offers, lighting is not
an issue. The 42" is the biggest the wife will let me get :( For
my personel taste the the LCD is just too washed out and over
priced from what I have been seeing at the above mentioned
stores. The faster action stuff seams to look a little better on
the Plasma's as well from what I can see. Its hard to justify a
true 1024x768 since my satelite offerings are limited (there is
only a few hundred bucks difference on some models) in true
HDTV, but if it made my DVD rentals just a hair better I would
spring the jing. The Pioneer Plasma's look unreal...right next to
there prices, the Samsungs sure look nice at a very competative
price with many options in the 1200-1800$ range.

Hook me up brutha! russjerome@aol.com
