Im a huge engine junky so ever since i saw this on another site ive Been doin a little research on these motors. Heres what i got so far
-1100 cubes ( 5.4" borex6.00 stroke) 60 degree v8
-DOHC 32 V
-All aluminum construction
originally designed as a V12 for airplanes by ford (hence the narrow angle V and all alum), when the US ARMY needed engines for its tanks in WWII ford lopped 4 cylinders offf the design and it became one of 3 engines to get used in the sherman tank. was rated at 500hp@2600 rpm in stock form.
The motor has been used is many different applications over the years and subsequently banished from most organized racing. Parts are very hard to come by these days as i guess after the war the US deemed it not cost effective to bring the tanks back and it just left most of the tanks over there, where they were scrapped. A quick search of ebay found std and .020 over bearings for sale but thats about it.
Does the engine have a name?
