Does it still have the RPO code on the trunk lid? It may give you the stock gearing. I know the Turbo Buicks all came with 3.42's. And the V6's in Camaro and Firebirds came with 3.42's. So, I would think you are right around there with the plain jane V6.
But, you can do this to find out:
Raise one rear wheel off the ground.
Block the front wheels so it won't roll, and use a jack stand. Safety first!
Put the trans in neutral.
Try to turn the wheel that's off the ground. If it won't turn, you either have the park brake set (be sure it's off), or you have a posi. If you have a posi, you'll need to raise the other rear wheel.
Take a piece of chalk or a marker and put a mark on the inner sidewall of the tire so you can watch its position.
Put a mark on the driveshaft so you can see its position.
Rotate the driveshaft and count how many turns it takes to rotate the wheel exactly one turn.
2-3/4 turns = 2.73:1 rear ratio
Just under 3 = 2.93
Just over 3 = 3.08
3-1/4 = 3.23
Just under 3-1/2 = 3.45 or 3.42
3-3/4 = 3.73
Just over 4 = 4.11

Chances are it had 2.41's or maybe 2.73's. Some other possibilities although unlikely would be 2.14 or 3.08 and I think 2.56. As Maro-Man said, check the RPO codes, the gearing ratio will start with a G.

according to a quick look, it should have had a 2.40 gear? but i've never heard of that ratio.

and MARO-MAN the 2.8 powered thirdgens ran a 3.42, but the 3.1 cars ran a 3.23

I knew the V6s got a nice gear from the factory. I can't believe they would put anything smaller then a 2.73 in anything. :rolf But, thats the 80's for ya. :headbang
