does it really matter. Its a $50 dollar paintjob.Im guessin it looks alot better than the primered up hondas you see running around.Ill try it out on my car and you can see how it turns out in person.I dont mind spending $50 on a paintjob.Worse comes to worse, i can always get it resprayed if it doesnt turn out and im only out $50.

Haha, I guess it's all in the prep work. Start with a smooth surface and sand inbetween coats.

Oh yah, its gonna be more then 50 bucks after you take into consideration the amount of time this will take you, along with the materials used.

^^^I agree. He's got a lot of time into a cheap paint job that will last.

Cool deal. By the looks of his neighborhood he doesn't have any issues with salt. I would imagine if you keep it waxed it should hold up fairly well.:thumbsup

I saw this idea on hybridz and I tried it on an old fender. It turned out pretty good!!! I used Blue, It has a nice shine, It just takes some time to sand, buff, pollish. For the cost, you can't beat it, If you have the time and little money and a car that needs a paint job, you can't beat it! I think when it warms up I'll paint my car.

ive seen a few cars on honda-tech with paint jobs like this and actually turn out decent i would say if you willing to put in time, do this over a maaco job for sure.

so I seriously wonder if this will work? I'd like to try it on something. I'm not quite sure how to polish it though once done. Just like normally waxing a car? do you have to start with a rubbing compound? someone explain this lol

Few guys @ neons.org did that and it turned out great :stare

Yep, seen this done on dsmtuners.com, turns out very decent.
Although that car ^^^ looks real damn good.

I mean what the hell, if you have the time to do it, and aren't in any hurry, why not?

I actually do wanna try it on my Honduh. I just don't know much about the final steps, like buffing and polishing. lookin for someone to give details on that.

i think all you gotta do is wetsand it between coats with 1000 grit and work up to 2000 grit towards the final coat.Ima try and spray mine on and see if it works better.

Question, if you're going to put a ton of time and effort into prep work, why not buy real auto paint? I can see spending $50 on a paintjob for a beater that you're goint to take 15 minutes to prep. But if you're going to spend hours prepping the body so the paint lays nice, why not borrow a gun and spend $300 on paint?

88Nightmare
02-04-2007, 04:58 PM
ya need a compressor to power that gun ya borrow

juicedimpss
02-04-2007, 04:59 PM
can you even buy paint for 300 anymore?

A quart of Dupont Chromabase is like $56. Clear was like $25. I'm sure theres cheaper brands.

And a compressor isn't hard to borrow/rent either.

napa paints arent that bad either.

which costs more money, and just continually adds to the cost of the project. I think the goal this guy was trying to acheive with his paintjob was a low cost. Whether it took a lot of time or not, it still did it cheaply. Cheaper then spraying.

Yeah but why skimp out there. It makes no sense to me. Would you spend 2 weeks framing a house and then just put cardboard on the outside of it but paint it to look like siding?

I just can't see the point of sanding and making the body straight, then rolling on your paint cause it's cheaper. I bet removing that shit paint later to put real paint on is going to be alot of fun.
