Do you know why some of the stones have black lettering? Did the families do that, or is that because they were some higher ranking?

Great pictures though :thumbsup

Well at one time they all had black lettering a paint called litho!
The markers come fom the VA and are made of marble and start out a lil over four feet tall we or i did dig the footings 4 feet deep an place a foot and a 1/2 of the bottom of the marker into the concrete and finish the border off!
Sorry i worked for a head stone place for years learned alot!!

Yeah, what he said! I was thinking some were just worn away from age.

It is a very cool place that everyone should visit at least once to get some scope of the people who served for this country. We live on the other side of 60th and the kids and I go bicyling through there in the summer alot.

I noticed one double sided marker yesterday. The front had the info on the guy and the backside just said "His wife (then her name and the date of death under that). I took a pic and it turned out like crap. Maybe because my eyes iced up....

It is just east of Hawley/60th and North of greenfield. You can get off of I94 W at the Mitchell blvd exit (by miller park) and follow the signs. There is a bunch of turn of the century buildings back there and a nice park. You can get to Miller park thru there also. Most of Milwaukee drives past thru the cemetery every day and doesn't even notice it. It's directly west of Miller park and is on both side of the freeway.

Another good one (if you are into cemeteries) is Calvary on 60th & Bluemound. The kids and I ride thru there in summer and look at all the wild old monuments and the famous people. Patrick Cudahy is burried there. Even dead people don;t want to be in Cudahy....

Forgot to mention.......

The VA used to have a car show there years ago called the 4x2 or something like that. They had it for all the disabled veterans to look at the cars and bikes.

Could be a good thing for a few people here to try and do over the summer?
(summer is the time where the temp is above 3 deg in case anyone forgot...)

the VA has a few great photo shoot locations too, me and a few buddys took a few with our cars there a year or so ago, police usually come through often but they were real cool about it and let us stick around.
