I didn't know lightnings had been around that long. Unless this guy just doesn't know what he is talking about.

not my problem people pay good money for "SVT" products that can hang with stock civics.i bought a slow car and didnt pay shit for it but why pay good money for one and have an SVT badge on it.Same goes for the contour and focus.Wtf is the special part in Special Vehicle Team??? Funny thing is my escort would smoke that crapbox so maybe ill just put some SVT badges on it, just so i can go to the svt meetings.Poor poor choice of ford to make such a heap and put their elite badging on there.Maybe thats the reason theres a 1st gen lightning in Waukesha with a GMC grill on it. :loser

Nothing could touch a gen 1 Lightning in their day. GM even tried with a big block.

I didnt read the article yet, but I love both trucks. And yes, back in 1993, Lightnings were effin fast. Think about what 10 years of technology has done to the truck. Supercharged 5.4 liters now, option for manual...its incredible what 10 years does to a vehicle. Is the current lightning the fastest thing on the road? nope. Have other vehicles also raised performance as did the lighting? yup. but the lightning is still pretty damn fast :D

You made a good point.....Today those numbers would not be really great but, back then both those trucks were fast......

there is an option for manual??? If so i havent seen one factory manual lightning to this day.My previous statements on the truck are withdrawn but Ford still sucks with svt putting badges on contours and foci. Those cars are deff nothing special unless you want heated leather seats and special alloys.

right, but a 1993 corvette compared to todays numbers would not be really great, but back then it was fast. its all relevency. in 1993, those trucks were effin sweet. they still are today, but with the change in technology, other vehicles today have surpassed them. but I dont think you can compare a brand new vehicles performance to something that is 14 years old...

and as far as the SVT focus and SVT contour, they arent anything spectacular, but they just labeled them svt simply for the name. do you think chevys current malibu ss is anything to cream your pants over? its simply a name that helps sell cars. do you think people were prematurely ejaculating over escort gt's back in 1991?

Yep, Boss LX ran my 8500 LB PSD Excursion with " med tuner setting, leaving off idle " to the same 1/4 ET and MPH as the Gen 1 Lightning did in that artical...I would bet nobody back in 1993 would have thought a 4 plus ton Diesel SUV would match that Lightning on the track....Boss and I are going to run the Excursion this year @ GLD I'm 100 % sure ET and MPH will be greatly improved.....:headbang

my point exactly. Your Excursion easily weighs double what the lightning does, and you are producing the same ET's with a truck that has half the rev'ing capability. But back then, in 1993, ford's IDI diesel in no way could run what a lightning could.

Yep, those early Diesels were bordering on "dangerous" as far as acceleration power goes !

You almost had to " call ahead for a appointment" to merge on a highway on ramp back then !:rolf :rolf

Back to Andy's first post....Does this truck seem quite cheap for what it is?

I have seen them advertised for quite a bit more $$$$$$$$$?

Maybe a little on the low side. I am guessing it is a rust free truck, with normal scratches and dents.
