The RCA inputs or composite inputs (yellow, red, white) can not carry the digital signal. You need to be using either Component (red, blue, green) cables or HDMI or DVI cables.

Is this a Pioneer? Flip the switch to P (progressive) and like said above- connect red, blue, green for video and then connect red & white for audio.
If by remote chance you still have no picture, you may have to go into the DVD players 'setup' and turn on the progressive output. Once you get picture IF you have a widescreen TV, go into the DVD setup and set your TV to 16:9 from the default 4:3 aspect ratio.
Do you have a surround system or are you using the TV speakers?

You cannot- 1080i is for HD TV only. Now you could get an "upconvert" DVD player and that will bump up the resolution when you connect it to the TV with an HDMI cable.
480P (Progressive) > 480i (Interlaced) because it give you a faster scan and the picture will look more fluid and you won't see nearly as much artifacting. Your DVD pic won't look as clear as HD, but running it progressively is much much better that composite or S-video.

the HDMI cables are worth the extra imo!! I could see the difference in picture quality when I swithed over to hdmi cable for my upconvert dvd player. The good thing about the upconverters is that they play avi files burned on a disc perfectly even without dvd encoding. 10 episodes of smallville burned on a single dvd in 15 minutes playing with better picture quality than my digital cable.

when it comes to hdmi cables DO not, I repeat DO NOT goto any big box store ( CC, BB, even walmart to get hdmi, there is a HUGE HUGE HUGE mark up on it, my buddy works at best buy, and his cost is 7 bux!!!!!!!!!!! when they sell them for 126 for 4 feet!!!

goto http://mycablemart.com/ or even come to milwaukee pc where I work an I can getyou a 4 foot with gold connectors for like 25 I think

but over all difference between the 126 and 7-25 dollars is welll...NOTHING

Damm, I wish I knew that earlier! I searched everywhere for cheaper cables, I ended up finding an open box item and got them cheap but you could have saved a ton of time.

My buddy at Best Buy purchased my $90 8 ft HDMI cable for me, I paid $7 for it, no wonder how Best Buy makes so much money considering they lose their ass on so many other things.
