My friends got a 00 Suburban, and it won't shift out of 4wd. What are some of the problems that could have caused this? Just tell me something.

Electronic shift I assume? I think the switches were common problems on them. Do you hear anything from the T-case when you try and shift out of 4wd? If not, I'd say it's probably the switch.

He doesn't hear any noises.
There are no service 4wd lights either.

I'd go with the switch then. If it was a mechanical problem, you'd probably hear it. Idk if the parts stores would have a switch, it's probably a dealer only item. Hope it helps! :thumbsup

Id first get in the fuse box and check if there is a relay for the T-case, if not and its not making ANY noise, it could be either the switch or the motor/solonoid, whatever that truck has. If you have a multi meter you can check the switch very easily to see if that is the problem.

does the 4 hi light blink all the the time? If so there is a procedure in the operators manual to follow to correct it.

My 96 Tahoe did the opposite where it would not go into 4HI or 4LO with the electronic switch.
It ended up being the actual module on the t-case. $250 @ the dealership to get it fixed.....

usaully with the switch problem .It would every once and a while throw the service 4wd light with no codes. Then you replace the switch. Yours kinda sounds more twards the motor not working on the front diff.
