Tonight we got the engine torn back down after my backfire. and found a piston that went through hell. Cylinder wall is fine, block is fine. Looks like the cylinder pressure, heat and nitrous melted the piston by the valve relief and cracked most of the piston.

Rebuild starts again...

I'm not complaining, Cant complain. I was pulling the pistons anyways to re-ring them back to a NA gap. One new piston and a set of rings

Hahaha if that was a cast piston it probably would have shattered and been everywhere in the motor. Good and proper destruction is the way to go!

I am impressed that it did not damage the cylinder wall.

Just wondering...

Are you going to clean out your block? I bet there are a few tiny little pieces of metal floating around in the block.

Wow Jeff! Like Tom said, had that been a cast or hypercrap piston, you would have probably lost your motor. I had one come apart and as the pieces fell down into the spinning crank, a piece got between one of the crank counterweights and the cylinder skirt and it blew the entire front half of the block apart.

Looks like you'll be back in business without too much carnage though. :D

That sucks Jeff, but on the bright side it could have been worse! Good luck getting it back together.

Number 3 surprisingly enough. Should be ready to roll early spring time. Going to try and enjoy the car this year.
