I have a laptop which is basically new and I want to put all my songs, vids, etc. on it from my current desktop, what is the best (fastest) way of doing this?

go to Walmart or another store like that and get a Jump Drive
they offer them from 256mb all the way up to 2Gig. It's pretty easy to use you just plug it into the usb then hook it to the other computers USB port. i got my 256mb one for 18 bucks.

_] External Hard-Drive is the fastest by far, but most expensive.
If you have more than like 20gb to transfer, I'd consider this.
It's also handy for quick backups and such.

_] Jump/Thumb drive is by far the cheapest, but the slowest due to you having many gigs of video/music data, and a relatively small media to transfer them from.
Also requires alot of your time.
(copy/transfer.... delete files from drive.... copy/transfer....repeat...zzz)

_] Over the network could be the cheapest if you have a network card for your laptop already. Just hook a network cable between the two, and share your folder(s) for the laptop to see... and go to town.
Could also be faster than the jump/thumb drive, ...just set it and forget it. (© Ronco Rotisserie)

I picked up my 1gig jumpdrive for $19 they are cheap nowadays but I would go the network route. I tranfered 30 gigs of movies over my wireless in under an hour.
