So whats new with those who have Montes/Cutlass or other g-bodies? And Impala's too since that is the forum name :D.

Nothing new here :(, I've been slackin'. Just started to putz on the LS which my plan is to re-do the oil pan gasket, mini starter, new oil pressure sender and some other little odds and ends by spring.

GN is still in apart, maybe this summer I'll get it back together......

Picking up another 87 Regal Limited this weekend with a ton of extra parts, might be a Race Car or maybe just turn it, anybody looking for parts?.......:D

The shell of my 86 442 is at work waiting to become one with the earth:rolf
I do have the seats out of it if anyone needs some maroon buckets, driver one is power.

I have started working on my 64 here and there. Got the headers cleaned up and painted. Started cleaning off the frame in the engine bay to throw some paint on. If I can decide which trans to put in , it and the engine will be going in soon. Then it's time to start buying interior parts (seat covers door panels etc.)
Here she is from when we got her in Colorado, and no it won't be sporting the 14" slots when it hiits the road:rolf

I forget, that 442 wasn't t-toped correct? If so I would be interested in some chrome roof trim possibly.

Rocket Power
01-06-2007, 05:45 PM
Nope it was a solid roof. Didn't pay much attn to the trim, if you want I can check it out when I go back to work monday.

On another note since th eweathers been nice I've been driving the wagon, but the donut gasket crapped out so I figure what the heck, I'll try changing it out. Hit the bolts with PB blaster, and this morning all three came right out:headbang
I love southern cars, truthfully I don't think I even needed the PB blaster.:banana1:

Haven't gotten it together yet since I think I am going to gut the cat. It's got one of the old style BIG ones with a plug in the bottom. If I get this plug out with the crap from inside come out?
Never played with one of these before.

Which starter are you going with Paul? Mine is getting heat soaked pretty bad.

PB86MCSS
01-07-2007, 12:06 AM
The starter for the LS will be the one which was on the SS after it got its 383. When the 383 was having balancing issues we played with the flywheel weights and well, one flew off breaking the nose off that starter :D. So once its fixed it will go on the LS.

I'm putting a 5 speed in the Malibu. PB, that driveshaft worked great, right up until I installed another automatic that only had reverse. Now I just need a transmission...again.

I've seen a Hurst like yours at Georgie Porgies quite a few times. Is that yours or another one? I've always liked the Olds G bodies.

Theres a few H/O's in the area I've seen, although not a ton it seems to be a fair amount of 84's I've noticed.

As for my starter, I believe its an application for an Astro van with the V-8...IIRC. I also think I purchased both of mine from Florida through some Turbo Regal vendor...if that helps ;).

Ebay is littered with the starters like Paul has:

Just find an auction with the correct bolt pattern for your flexplate. We've bought 3 or 4 of these already (not specifically from this seller), and they all work great. Major bang for the buck.

I'm around. Bigger motor for the Monte, threw some better parts in the tranny, full MSD setup going in, major wiring clean up, front end rebuild, yadda yadda.. in other words, I better get back in the garage and get to work! :D

Yup, that's mine. The one in desperate need of paint, right? :rolf My friend has one too but I don't think he had it up at Georgies this past year at all though. I actually didn't drive it that much last year. I think I put less that 500 mi. on it all season. She just isn't as reliable as I'd like her to be.

Whoa! How do you do that?!? :wow
And while I'm at it, what's the deal with S10 rear wheel cylinders on G/A bodies?

PB86MCSS
02-03-2007, 11:43 AM
Using stock spindles with an old rotor as a hub plus a bracket of some sort...or using ZQ8 spindles...time to read up on the 13" brake swaps, I plan to convert my SS from the 12" b-body brakes to 13" "Vette" brakes as well.

TPI Maliblu
02-04-2007, 12:51 PM
What is different about the S10 spindles? I thought they were an exact duplicate of G-body spindles? Maybe a slightly different tie rod mount?

I need to start poking around the junk yard more...

85SS/85GN

the zq8 spindles are dual piston calipers and 11 inch rotors and they come on all 98-03 2wd s10 blazers

So far this year I've lowered mine and put in new adjustable shocks. Next step is safety. Plan on replacing the brake lines along with some other stuff to stop the car at the end :D Maybe even get two new front tires so my rims will actually match this year when racing :thumbsup

Is that a remove and replace type thing, or is anything different between the G-body spindle and the ZQ8 spindles that needs some massaging?

I knew the S10s and Gbodies were similar, but this saves a lot of headache with aftermarket A arms to throw a B-body spindle on.

Thanks!:)

why not use the cheap upper arms from speedway, for the hobby stock cars, they are less than 50 a side....then use the b body spindle..

you just replace the g-body spindles and brakes with the zq8 spindles and brakes and go.

PB86MCSS

Yep, the "ZQ8" spindles are direct swaps for the g-body spindles :). Gotta love the GM parts interchangeability.

Are you talking about these: http://www.speedwaymotors.com/p/2120,25_IMCA-Spec-Stock-Car-Control-Arm.html?

Because those may be just the ticket. Has anybody used them?

thats the ones....also http://www.speedwaymotors.com/p/4853,26_4130-Chrome-Moly-Metric-Upper-Control-Arm.html
the chromoly version

the way i understand, you will need to use two right side arms, flip the one over to use on the left side. the left arm they sell is a different lenght for circle track.
they have a few discussions about it on maliburacing.com

The Gbodyparts.com states they are for use with the original spindles. I'd only want to swap them for the use of bigger brakes with B-body spindles. Though they are still a great deal.

Thanks for all of your help.

Now I have to look into boxing my rear control arms...

Aftermarket UCA's will work with either the stock or Blazer spindle, same dimensions...many ways to get bigger brakes, the b-body spindle swap is one but some complain about the bumpsteer/geometry.

bumpsteer should be really good with the tall spindle...................unless it is too tall?

PB86MCSS
02-10-2007, 12:40 AM
It makes it too tall...it brings the tie rod angle down which worsens bumpsteer, or something like that ;)....I myself don't have a big issue with it but the suspension guru's with the swap really don't like it. Overall its an upgrade with larger brakes and better handling (due to using larger wheels and slight negative camber I suppose too). But there might be better options out there now.

Aren't ball joints different with the B-body spindles vs. G-body? I thought maybe Moog had a special joint to throw B-body spindles on stock G-body control arms, but I could be wrong.

Has anyone heard of this?

Here is a link for doing the Corveete brakes on the ZQ8 spindles. All you need is the adapter bracket which you can from Jason Hurst who has a link in the post.

Hope this helps

Finally a reason to have 20" rims on a G-body. Though 14" Rotors seem a little much.

20"s can look pretty sharp, with the right stance, IMO. Once you start doing larger than that, its pretty goofy 99% of the time.

I'm not really into the whole huge wheel thing. I just upgraded from 14" steels to 15" smoothies. I'm debating stepping up to the 16" S10 rims.

Currently it's wearing a non-matching set of jackstands. Similar to most cars with at least three 20" rims, I guess...:alcoholic

I still have the car and it still looks like it does in the above pics. It's hard to believe that the car has been painted now for 17 years!! It's far from perfect, but not too shabby for a 17 year old kid :D
