tried to do an oil change on my quad today. should be a simple procedure. Drain oil. replace drain plug. remove old filter. replace with new one. add proper oil level. enjoy. But no. Not for me. First off, I accidentally used a torx on my drain plug when it was really supposed to be a 6mil allen. the outer edge of the bolt is perfectly round. well the torx started to strip it out. The allen finished it off. next came the vise grips, and that just mutilated the bolt. I am using every ounce of my strength to clamp the vise grips down onto the bolt just so I can try to turn it and remove it, and the vise grips just take more and more material off the head of the bolt. The bolt is in there so damn tight, it doesnt budge. I tried heating it up, I tried penetrating oil, NOTHING! Why would a drain plug be in so tight from the factory??? This is a bolt thats supposed to be taken off from time to time, this thing is torqued on more then my fvcking lug nuts. now I have to take this fvcking thing to the dealership tomorrow and pay like $100 bucks I would imagine just so they can try to remove the bolt so I can do a fvcking oil change. WTF!!!!!!! :flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2: :fire :fire :fire :fire :fire

Do you have any of these you can try? It might be worth it for the 10$ to give it a shot. I have had good success with them in the past.

I have used these quite a bit more than the others I posted and these have never failed me.

I'm pretty sure Sears has these but not sure on the cost. The same company makes them for everyone, Snap-on, Matco, Mac, and I even think Northern might carry them.

All you do is try the one closest in size and hammer it in and twist. If that doesn't work you go on to the next bigger size, if it is in between sizes ou just drill it to the size listed on the extractor.

tack weld or jbweld a socket to it, the end :)
that worked for me when I had a stripped out wheel lock.

farm and barn is closed at the moment, but I will try it. How long does it take jb weld to dry before I can start wrenching on it?

I actually cant tack weld a socket to it, its aluminum, but jb weld will do!

JB kwik dries in like 10 minutes, JB weld is supposed to wait for like a day. obviously the latter is stronger

for sure. I dont anticipate me needing the JB weld, its just a drain plug.... although look at whats happened already....

from jbweld.com
Like metal, J-B KWIK can be formed, drilled, ground, tapped, machined, filled, sanded, and painted. It stays pliable for about 2 minutes after mixing, sets in just 4 minutes, and cures fully in 4 hours. It's water-proof, petroleum-, chemical-, and acid-resistent; resists shock, vibration, and extreme temperature fluctuations, and withstands temperatures up to 300° F. J-B KWIK is super strong, non-toxic, and safe to use.

Sounds like the factory oil filters on most new vehicles. The Hercules robots puts them on Fords. Word to the wise... let the dealership do the first oil change!

Good luck getting it off. The one on our Yamaka ATV was fairly routine... haven't had to tackle the Honduh ATV yet..

Yeah "...had I known". I changed the oil on my lady's new mustang. I swear if you listen outside you can still hear the four letter words coming from my garage last august. I've never seen an oil filter that was THAT tight. Took me an hour to get it off. Of course I didn't have an oil filter wrench.

Don't worry.. even if you had, you'd still have been cussing. I had one of those "band" style ones and it pwn3d the adhesive, pulling the rubber gripper thingy off the metal ring. Channel locks finaly did the trick but they put those filters in the damndest places. I learned the lesson with the most recent truck. Took it in at 2K miles and let the dealership fight with it. For all I know, they didnt change the filter though.. :goof

Jeebus.
Learn to operate your vehicle.
Stick a poodle skirt and blonde wig on and head to the service station.
On to the real stuff...
Take an allen key one size bigger than the plug and pound it in with a hammer.
Crank that biatch out and get another drain plug.
Next, stop being a nancy and go join a vcr-programming forum.
Skirt...

As soon as you try turning it, that JB weld will snap off and you will be screamin some nasty shit. I'm with the pound in the bigger allen key.

If you put it on thick enough, it won't.
I used über force on a 1/2" ratchet with breaker bar to get my wheel lock off.
I tried chipping/hammering afterwards to detach the two, not even a dent, just tossed it.

I guess these guys missed the main post. its on a drain plug. a bolt that should be able to be removed. If this doesn't get it off, then there is something seriously wrong with my damn drain plug.

Back when I used to race quads I did this numerous times (hey, I was young). I feel for you since I few times I had the same problem of a drain plug that simply refused to move.

Maybe it heat-welded itself in there... that'd blow.

The beauty of hammering in a biger allen wrench/hex is that if that doesn't work, you can always try JB weld as option #2.

already got it out. I used JB Kwik. Applied it last night, cranked it off today. Went to the dealership and got a new drainplug. All is well.
