I'm looking at upgrading my graphics card. I have an ATI Radeon X300 128mb PCI right now, and was looking for something under $200 to upgrade. I found a PNY Verto GeForce 7600 GS 512MB DDR2 PCI card for about $145 shipped, any opinions?

I'm not looking to spend $700 on a top of the line card, it would probably be outdated in a year anyway, just a decent upgrade from what I have now. Here's a link...

About one year ago, I bought a nvidia GeForce 6200 512mb OC AGP.

I spent about $125 on it to replace my ATI card.

I went from running microsoft flight 04 at minimum graphics to all sliders maxed.

A couple of other guys recommended the 25gmb one compared here.

Damn I kinda like my Radeon X300 thats in my PC, but i suppose in spring it'll be 2 years old.

X300 ain't bad, but given the current technology you can easily upgrade for cheap.

Nvidia, and ATI, I'd recommend. But theres plenty of other good options out there.

I picked up a ATI 1600 with 512 MB of memory. (I have a 22" LCD and run 1680x1050 res)

Got it at Best Buy for $99 on BlackFriday.

So far I have not had a problem running anything.

are you sure you have a PCI Express Motherboard or just a PCI......It matters.

his X300 SHOULD be PCI Express, assuming his computer is fairly new

Do I understand correctly, the 500mhz vs. 400mhz core clock, and 1380mhz vs. 540mhz memory clock is more important than the 512mb vs. 256mb. memory size?

What does the memory type (GDDR3 vs. GDDR2) mean?

What does the memory interface mean? (256 bit vs. 128 bit)

If your set on the two 7600s get the EVGA one, its better hands down.

Its faster all around and has way more pipelines.

depends on what you are doing.

The only reason to have a video card with a lot of memory is if you have a larger monitor and are using a higher res. If you are still using a 17" CRT (not an LCD) then 128 MB would probable be just fine for anyone.

Someone with a 17" LCD I would recomend 256 MB video card. The res on a 17" LCD is 1280 x 1024 so the more memory is needed.

Since I am at 1680 x 1050 I have a video card with 512MB.

Don't forget gaming, it helps out alot for games with lots of dark/light areas, shading/shadows/etc.
Not to mention being able to beef up the anti-aliasing if applicable... world of difference from 2x/4x/8x :)
