Went into Art's on S 76th this aft just see what they all had. Pleasantly suprised to see the Canon EF 75-300 1:4-5.6 III zoom lens on sale for just $129, cheaper than anywhere I could remember seeing it on the net.
Anyway, obviously not a professional lense, focusing can be a bit slower than what you might be used to but for a newb or semi-newb it seems to work great.

For outdoor use the 4 to 5.6 will be absolutely fine.
Not too often you'll want 300mm indoors :rolf
nice addition for the price certainly

Thats kind of what I was shooting for, no pun intended. The kit 18-55 wasn't exactly a long range lens. As soon as my budget for lenses is as much as my car budget I will go with something with IS.
I just bought one of those too, I paid 132 shipped for mine and I had it 2 day air. Takes great shots at a decent distance for the money, I cant wait to get some action shots with it
here's my first photo with the new lense, haha

I took a shot at the moon with this lens. Nearly a full moon so not much contrast, I will try again at a half moon
