I went down with Tri to pick up his car from Sound Performance yesterday. Here are a few engine shots. More to come spring 07. This winter the TRD widebody is getting done then coming back and getting tuned for C-16 and VP import fuel. It should be a fun summer :)

Chris from SP took the pictures. I did some filming of it on the dyno. No big pulls since it had 93 in it but it sounds pretty wicked. Tri said it is staying 6 speed for now. It was putting out more power and coming on quicker than a similar setup that put out 1000whp. It should be interesting. As far as cost, he has less money in the car including the cost of the car than the price of a brand new Z06.

That makes it ever better, the fact that he did it without dumping more than he needed on it, and get towards his goals of 1000whp or better...The difference between this car and most other high HP supras, is the fact that Tri will probably take the extra steps needed to make it hook up to produce some great 1/4 times.

As far as the pics go...excuse me while I go change my shorts...that is definitely a work of art...very nice setup Tri and thanks for the pics Chris :thumbsup

I should quit speaking for Tri but I haven't told him I posted the pics on here yet. There were not any big pulls done on pump gas. When it comes back after the body work it's going to be tuned for C-16 on the street and VP Import for 40psi race setting. On the street it will be at about 27psi which would I guess be around 8XXwhp :confused The power was coming on quicker and with more power than another similar setup that put down 1000whp.

It might look that way but the edge that was put on the pipes will make it so the hoses will not blow off.

yeah "SPO1" as it was called ran a 9.001 for a while. I have a buddy that works there that said the were more focused on making other peoples cars go fast and not focus much on there car. I don't think they had SP01 out in 05 or early 06. Then it came out with a new paint job (Orange) and new turbo setup.SP01 Runs 8.38 @ 169.4 but back with the old setup i'm pretty sure that was on a smaller turbo setup(GT42?) then what Tri is running. again i'm not 100% sure. and i believe they did it with 1100-1200RWHP. So depending how Tri sets up his suspension and how well he can wrestle this car. it could go anywhere from 8.60's - 20.1's lol

This is what WOTM 6spd. Supra ran with a slightly bigger turbo(GT47-88) to Tri's (GT47-80)

I know it was a few years back that the yellow/blue one was out. Plus they have it racing a bike on the RSD portion of the Scandalous Racing video and they show the time slip. That is where I got the information from. Also my understanding is that it "supposively" made near 1400ish.
In that video he also raced a Mustang (blue w/silver stripes) but that didn't pan out so well for the Supra. :thumbsup

They were just doing more driveability tuning with c16 fuel and some pulls. It's going to put out decent power. Just messing around with base boost. He's not going for high numbers until this summer when the car gets to the track and he gets used to driving it. It does have the right suspension on it, it's just not dialed in yet.

definitely a rumor, man. i know he's not going for that kind of power until this summer. needs to get the right suspension and tires underneath him, get em behind the right fenders, and get some more track time with the car before he unleashes it.

Not a rumor. its a fact. vids were posted on supraforums.com today. and it has the right suspension. but then again what do i know. :D\

and 980rwhp on that setup isnt alot that actually should be base boost.

Wasn't this supposed to just be his first run on the dyno.... If it was, I doubt they were going to push it. I'm sure there will be more power on the way.

Do not get me wrong...the car is bad ass, and I get along good with Tri, but ANYBODY can buy a car, and write checks to OTHER people to build it for them. I would be really impressed if Tri would do the work for himself instead of paying others to do everything.

I agree with that to a CERTAIN point. You would be hard pressed to build a car to this caliber without TONS of experience. Sound Performance is top notch when it comes to Supras. And I think if you want it done right and want the car to be reliable, sometimes the checkbook does the work. If you want to wrench around under the hood of a twin snail set-up, add some bolt-ons etc that is one thing. But to BUILD a car like this takes outside help. Having SP in your corner is a BIG advantage should the car have any issues down the road.

I agree with you that a car of this caliber for most people would require outside help, and Sound Performance is a top notch shop. I was not bashing Tri, but I do not think that he has ever actually put together any of his cars, and I have known him for a LONG time. But, to each their own, and some people do not want to work on their stuff, they just want to be known for the car.

well put it into perspective....I couple probably put together a 900whp Supra if someone gave me a car and a bank account to draw from. Its not top secret what goes into these cars to make the big numbers. The only difference is that my car would end up costing about the same to build when you factor in the mistakes I make during the build, the broken parts etc....it costs a LOT of money to build a high quality, top notch car like Tri's but if you want to play you know what they say.....

I am not here to prove anything, or try to be the fastest because I will never be. I am a passionate car guy like the rest of you. I have done allot of my own work on my car but building a presicion engine that requires as much hp and reliability as this one, I needed the assistance of SP perfessionals. How many of you have built your own engines and have been succsesful with high horespower along with reliablity? If I had the shop add on the single turbo conversion that would be a different story... When it comes internal engine parts I don't mess around with it. I rather have the motor built right by professionals than have to spend the money twice. As you know Supra perfromance parts are NOT CHEAP!!!!!. To each of their own, whether you built it yourself or had it perfessional built . The best of luck to all of you.

Hi Tri - Nick

i can say that i put together my engine with the help of a professional (Gean) just ask him i helped every step of the way and he let me order the parts for it, AND THEY WERE EXACTLY WHAT HE WOULD HAVE DONE, but i did not have the know how and equipment to boar hone and the other extensive machine work. when it comes to an engine, a professional has experience and he knows what will work and what wont. Gean's favorite quote is "everyones an engine builder" he is the one that fixes all the other do it yourselfers and shops mistakes. I know first hand it is cheaper to do it right the first time than having to redo it!! There is l lot more than throwing shit together belive it or not, just because it says it is balanced +- 2G don't mean shit!! even if the parts are expensive as **** it still needs to be checked!!!!!!!!!

I seem to remember a few late nights at Tri's house in his garage after he bought the supra helping him out. He was well on the way to a big turbo working on it himself. Then he realized that he wanted more, more that he knew was over his head. Hats off to him for making his dream a reality.

Thanks for your support and kind words. Its to bad I had to learn the hard way that it doesn't matter how much power you make it all comes down to the driver and putting traction to the ground! I am in the process of learning how to drive this rear wheel drive car, Its totally different than a front wheel drive. As of right now I don't care about my time slips. What is now important to me is keeping the car straight and driving it SAFE!!!!!

Thanks Tri

I can't wait for this thing to get back from the body shop! As with any high HP car traction will be an issue, but once it hooks I think there will be very few if any cars that will be able to hang with it. And not only that, but it will have the handling, looks, and reliability to go along with it which in my opinion makes the ultimate street car. It's nice to see people going for the total package once in a while instead of just being one dimensional. I am definitely looking forward to this summer, there should be a few very quick and well built cars running around.

Btw, I think that in addition to the King of the Highway we should have another contest similar to the Ultimate Streetcar Shootout which would showcase a cars overall performance and streetability.
