Beating a car by 5 lengths that 60's a 1.7 no matter what, is pulling hard! FYI

And if you pull a half of car in a half of gear, that is also a good pull. Not to mention when a auto car is roll racing against a stick car, and stills pulls.

I work at a Jeep dealership in New Orleans and we sold about 8 of them.

Raced one of our customers with my stang when I had it. He got me off the line but once I was in second I killed him.

They are pretty cool though.
we have the SRT8 300 in stock too.

I'd take the jeep...more power, less weight, handles better, AWD standard, guys have gone 12.8@108 with just a filter (1.76 60'), and it looks better imo. Sure, the SS will haul more and has more room, but oh well.

Like my TB-SS example thats a "best case secnario for stockish". Im sure the TB-SS has some weight over the SRT etc...

Reality is a diff story as usual... upon heading to GLD and watching stuff u usually see the reaility and i remember watching 03 cobra's that were stock and couldnt break into the 12s on slicks or radials with 400 RWHP...

One time this summer i had gone to GLD with the monte and a SRT 8 charger with exhaust and intake and tune couldnt run better than 13.80s @ 103 to my 14.0's at the time @ 100 with 125 less hp and 12K less sticker price, which mine unltimately ended up going 13.6 @ 102 with that same 300 hp later in the year.

I cant get by the performance to cost ratio though of the mopars, those Jeeps are pretty god damn pricey! as is any "SRT" sans the neon. When i can get a mid 13 sec monte for a touch over 25K, a low 13 sec TB-SS for mid-low 30's... that looks like the better route to me i guess... All personal opinion.

mike90lxII
12-14-2006, 04:40 PM
Technology cost money. But you could probably get the GC for less than 40k depending on the options.

Yeah look at me I had a 460whp mustang and most times couldn't get it to run better than 12.50's. So driver def makes a dif.

Prince Valiant

Like my TB-SS example thats a "best case secnario for stockish". Im sure the TB-SS has some weight over the SRT etc... Oh, I know that's for sure...and I've seen that charger you were talking about at the track too. But as "best case scenario's" go, there have got to be a few "worst case" ones as well. There are some charger's srt's with CAI, stock exhaust to the cat, cat-back and tuning that have gone 12.4's too...

but if one looks to the general times of truely stock vehicles, same drivers, conditions, etc, one can't deny that on average the jeep is .5-.7tenths faster than even the 2wd ss's.

When i can get a mid 13 sec monte for a touch over 25K, a low 13 sec TB-SS for mid-low 30's... that looks like the better route to me i guess... All personal opinion. Well, at 39,995, it is a healthy step up from ifrom 33,950 from a 4WD SS or 31950 of a 2wd SS...but mopar sells all they make, so why not?

And in general, look at SRT-8 version of the 300...and compare it to let's say a CTS-V. SRT-8 is a little over 10 or 11G cheaper for virtually equal performance not just in the 1/4 mile, but handling, braking, roadholding, etc...or compare it to the similarly sized/weight STS-V, and you'll see that for again, equal performance, but this time for ~30,000 less. And you could get virtually the same car for 5-6G less than the 300 with either a magnum or a charger SRT-8.

But you are right...no one expect's you to go with a mopar, EVER, nor me with a chevy, EVER :goof

It's down for now...and I did just sell the engine...but maybe I can get it up for a snow tire race (haven't pulled it yet), i'll have to see when I can get to it and how easy it'll be to put the new shifter arms on there (weather dependant). yeah thats nice... i'll stick the same amount in my jeep and blow the doors off the tb. i understand brand loyalty but it seems some people take it to the extreme and refuse to except the facts.

i use to be the very proud owner of an s-10 extreme but it wasn't the baddest thing out there, hell, i even had an s2000; but after awhile something new and better will come out. i'm sure by the end of this month my jeep will probably be out done by something out there and thats fine, i'll admit defeat or at the very least i won't be saying i'll put 4 turbos and a bottle on my vehicle to blow the doors off your stock (insert vehicle here).

what's with people bragging about performance of vehicles that they can't even afford? i enjoy talking to people who actually have fast vehicles and who have actually tested the automotive "waters" and formulate very well thought out critisms on vehicles they 've had personal experiences in.

that's my 2 cents.

I don't know about jeep, but over at Holz, they wont even let you touch a TB SS without a pending deal, and by pending, they told me loan approved just waiting to sign. kinda extreme to me. I know I am a younger guy and maybe they just didn't want to deal with someone driving one for the hell of it, but come on, I rolled up to their showroom in an 06 silverado and have paperwork in my glovebox proving its mine.... not like my 06 silverado price was far off from the TB SS.

Hub south didnt even have an SRT8 jeep for me to just look at.

And from what I read on traiblazer ss forums, guys with stock trailblazers have had transfer case and rear end failure at 5 or 10k miles with mostly gentle driving. ON STOCK VEHICLES! hmm... other guys complained of wind noise on the freeway and other stuff of that nature.

actually i wish i had another vehicle to drive, i'm not sure how my polished aluminum rims are going to look after this winter.

just use soap and water and DONT use that aluminum wash that you buy in a store. That stuff with just haze your rims. Get a good billet polish like Eagle one nano or Mothers billet and the Mothers powerball and you'll be fine.

2wd on slicks!
12.50@ 107 1.67 60' intake, UD pulley, elec fan, 3400 stall and tune is it!

Not bad for a lowly 390hp cheby

i use get the same treatment you're getting from a lot of dealers; it wasn't until i started driving luxury cars that they've decieded to treat me a little better. but you know what; i usually roll back to the same dealers after i 've spent my money elsewhere.

come to think of it i bought my extreme from Holz; you're right there service is really shi**y. Nightmare, if i were you i'd run away from that dealersship.

hey if you still have the WRX do mind running against my srt8? your vehicle was my second choice and i am really curious as how the jeep will do against that vehicle.

I wouldn't buy from them, I just wanted to drive one. Braeger hasn't gotten an SS in yet, and I usually buy my vehicles from them. Both of my trucks came from them. They always treat me like a king and give me sweet deals... Maybe because my pops worked there for like 7 years. Either way, I am always happy at Braeger. Their service department rocks also.

Perfect example. Back in march of 06 I bought a 2002 cheby 1500 ex cab z71 from them. 2 weeks later I noticed all my tires were badly cupped. I went back there, they gave me 4 brand new firestone somethin or other tires that were better then what came on those trucks stock, for free, mounted and balanced... free. Then in summer when it became like the middle east over here with 100º temps, I discovered my air conditioning didnt work. This was in actually july, 4 or 5 months after I bought it. I went back to them, and they split the repair cost with me, so I ended up oweing 50 bucks... which was less then what a tank of gas cost. Either way, they have always been reasonable.
