I've had this problem before but I could always get it to take gas.

So I went to the gas station to fill up...put the pump in...pull the trigger....pump STOPS. My truck is on empty but yet it's overflowing?!?!?!?! I've had the problem before but after a few tries it has always worked....but not this time. I pull the pump out and the gas is spilling out of the tube. Even if I push the little flipper door open the gas will still not drain inot the tank. It's almost like it's full to the brim....but in reality it's not. I though that maybe it was the pump....so I tried another. Same problem. I even tried a different gas station.

Help...I need gas...lol :stare

Whenever I've had that happen, I have either pumped really slowly and it worked or have pulled the nozzle out of the filler just a bit to let some air in there. Those vapor recovery things suck.

lol sounds like the fill tube is rubber parts are kinked somehow, someway... or someone managed to get a sock in the fill tube LOL

I had a similar problem on my '02 S-10 Crew Cab. The gas gauge was screwed up and there was actually gas in there. I took it back to the dealer 3 times for it to get this fixed. Turns out that the float gets caught on the wires inside the tank and gets stuck. On the third time to the dealer, someone actually figured out what was happening and just used a simple zip tie to pull the wires out of the way so the float will not get caught and I have never had the problem again. Maybe this could be happening to you too?

Sounds pretty similar to you?

Fuel Vent Valve.
Its located in the fuel tank. A very common problem.
Symptoms are 1) when filling the tank the pump nozzle tries to tell
you the tank is full.2) pressure builds up in the tank due to the fact
that the vent valve is stuck, and the fuel backs out of the filler
neck.

Couple laps through a car wash with a good underbody flush probably wouldn't hurt either. Just don't run out of gas in the wash! :goof

sometimes with the angle of the filler neck on my 06, the vapor recovery pile of trash just automatically shuts off when im on empty. But like jeremy said, I just pull it out a little bit, hold the trigger wide open, and shes good to go.

Hahah id rather work in dried crusty mud then dripping wet mud, wear a full face shield when getting ready to bear hug the tank though, all kinds of shit falls out then!!

Perhaps its easier to rip the box off?? Then drive it around like that... youll have one bad ass chassis cab S-10 then hahah

Most often, it is NOT your car that triggers the pump to turn off.

Lately, many gas stations have been using nozzles which are very sensitive to . They are doing this because "too many" people are topping off their gas tanks. This is very evident at the BP station at Brown Deer and Port Washington. I complained about it after it took 5 minutes to put $10 in my Audi.

It not the nozzle. When you look down the filler neck (push the little flipper door open) it's full and does not drain into the tank.
I pissed about 1 gallon of gas all over the ground trying to get it to go into the tank.

That sucks.

That might actually be easier in all honesty. 4 bolts and some other misc crap and 'voila.

why do gas stations not want you topping off? I never understood that....

they dont want it pouring all over the place. They are trying to keep the most off the ground as possible. Thats what it said on one of the pumps i went to anyway.

gas evaporates quick anyway, so who cares?
