how do you sell a "parts car"? like how do you cover yourself in case the person takes it and smashes in to a building the next day? thanks

Once you have a signed bill of sale it's in their posession. Make sure you have a signed bill of sale...

Bill of sale is the answer and if you want get their drivers license # and write that down on it also make sure to file it away in a safe place for a long time.

You have to include a "as is" claus in your contract as well and make sure it's in writing. To avoid any kind of parole evidence sighting in the future make sure that you have EVERYTHING in the contract when it's written (unless of course in the worst case you are looking forwards to bickering in court over oral contracts).

I have some stamps that say that the car is not for use on public highways... :rolf

And might not pass emissions in the local attainment areas.
