Forgiato Wheels showed off their Radurra wheels today. Instead of spokes, this three-piece wheel uses a two-inch thick solid piece of polycarbonate --hard coated to reduce scratching. Representatives say the Frogiato Radurra (Italian for Forged Clear) has been successfully SAE tested and will go on sale in 22 and 24-inch diameters immediately, with 26 and 28-inch examples to come a bit later. Prices start at $2,000 each.

I bet the fun part to owning them is cleaning the brake dust off the inside of the wheel :-)

Can I get a custom wheelshield wiper and nozzle installed on the inside?

OH better yet, lets make it so that there is TWO clear pieces. That way I can fill it up with water, and then put some goldfish in there. That would be pimp.

They outfit the center section with those peel off plastic things that dirt track racers use on thier face shields :goof

I bet spoked poly wheels will be on the horizon. I could see some practical applications like for motorsports if they can make the wheel hold up to the abuse. Poly = lightweight

sure. I worked at a large plastics manufacturer. You'd be surprised the poly composites and how light they can be. I think a 5 spoke poly wheel with 2" think spokes would be decently light depending on the rim design and thickness. I have a guy in the design department that could draw up a solidworks file AL. I see if he can do it.

Ugly as all hell, but still innovative and useful! (Tweel, not those gay ass window wheels)

not much air flow over the brakes, being one side is solid

That why you would want the five spoke.

I see, 2" spokes. I don't know if that would be strong enough. Then again, the majority of the stresses occur closest to the hub. I cannot tell from the pics above, but the hub seems to be made of metal, so it is feasable. I have been able to crack acrylic parts 1/2 inch thick with small 1/8 bolts tightened lightly with a screwdriver. The material can handle pressure, but not tension.
