I'm looking for a good shop that deals with R-12 Freon, I live on the south side by the airport but would be willing to take a drive if need be. It's for my fathers Grand National, it needs an A/C compressor and he wants to keep it as factory as possible. All I really need is someone to 'suck' the freon out, and then recharge it after I put the compressor in.......

Thanks~!

Don't you have to convert it to 134A? if you are replacing the compressor anyway, there should be an upgrade kit...

I think you can get it in IL and/or the U.P. of Michigan. That could be untrue by now.. haven't checked into it in a while.

How long ago did they stop using R12, I might still have some in my garage...

R-12 is expensive, if anyone has it its like GOLD.

New compressor = 134 universal kit.

Production of chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) has been phased out. Environmentally acceptable replacement compounds are therefore needed for use in existing medium and low temperature refrigeration applications. Refrigerant R134a or HFC-134a was developed to meet these needs. Refrigerant R134a or HFC-134a is a commercially available hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) refrigerant for use as a long-term replacement for R-12 in new equipment and for retrofitting medium temperature CFC-12 systems.(1)

Heres a kits : http://www.uniweld.com/catalog/refrig_hvac/accessories/adaptor_kit.htm

I dont know much about this retrofit but I think im right :thumbsup

You can always convert it to the R-134a and keep the original R-12 sticker so no one would suspect a thing and remove the adapter fittings for a totally stock look...just wanna remember to tell anyone who might service it ;).

as far as I know they don't even make R12 so you would have to find someone who still has some laying around

The fittings for 134A are a totally different size than they are for 12.

You could just put on the low side fitting so that it is less hidden (not exactly sure where the fittings are on a GN). All you need to charge it is the low side anyways, I may have a fitting laying around that you can have.
