Are these plugs really that bad? Primaraly in imports? Everybody at the nissan board insists they are junk. What are your thoughts?

I never had any problems with them in any car I'd ever tried them in.

Now I don't keep trucks long enough to need to worry about plugs.... :D

If they are so bad, how are they still in business? Do they cater to the German imports more? Thats all MB seems to Run. I have been strongly urged not to use them in my Q. Well, I did and they worked great for 20k. Now the car runs like crap and I'm wondering if thats the problem.

there still in business becuase of people thinking that platinums will last longer, burn hotter, etc. It really depends on the car too, i had em in my ranger and they worked fine but i also had them in a probe i bought and it ran like shit like mentioned above.I pulled the plugs, checked the gap and it was fine, the plugs were only 1 month old.Id say if you want some better plugs that will outlast copper plugs and burn hotter get ngk v-powers.Ive had them in a last few cars ive owned and never had a problem.I also remember a kid in auto class in high school who used bosch platinum +4s in his feiro and it burned through the head.:rolf :rolf

Wow. Sounds real hit or miss. Funny two people mentioned them having problems with them in Probes. I has two (1st and 2nd gen) and those are the cars I ran them in. Both with no issues. But I think that's before all this +4 crap. Maybe that's the difference...:confused

mine were 1 month old standard platinums and it wouldnt run for crap on high rpms and would die when coming to a stop.

I know when I tried them in my old GSX they were garbage. Imports love NGk's, I love NGK's. :banana1:

NGK's are pretty good, since they come in most import bikes that spin up to 13000rpm so they have to be pretty good.. The Bosch I had them back out of my 2.2 turbo all the time untill I threw them down the street and then I ran Champions.. The bosch work good with the VW and BMW cars but I guess its more of someone's opion.

The only plugs I have ever seen cause an engine to run like SH*t are Bosch Platinum’s, and any other 'multi' tipped plug they have. Now, all of those cars that were running like sh*t didn't come with Bosch's, let alone platinum’s. So here's my thought on Bosch Platinum’s, I don't think they are outright junk but I think they only work in certain applications. Most people would be surprised how much a different style, heat range, or brand of plug can change the way an engine runs/performs......

Just my 2 sense......:headbang

I like autolite copper plugs. basic. a buck fifty each. old school sometimes works better. from what ive been taught, copper is an excellent conductor. never heard anything about platinum being a good conductor, besides, lets just say the platinum does last longer, who cares, the autolites are only a 1.50

Copper is a better conductor. I use and recommend using plain old copper plugs in anything high performance, and definitely in anything boosted or sprayed. Boosted or sprayed = high cylinder pressure and a lot of times you will get spark blowout or they just won't fire at all with platinum or other plugs. Platinum is not near as good a conductor, that is one reason they are a pin point (cost of platinum being the other). Sharp edge or point is a less resistance as well, the platinums need all the help they can get.

The reason manufacturers went to platinum is for one reason only - it is harder and does indeed stand up to heat much better so they last longer. Hence the manufacturers can advertise 100,000 miles or whatever before needing a tuneup. Anyone with a high performance car should typically be changing plugs quite frequently and the coppers are only a buck or two each so screw the platinum.
