I'm looking at some GTP's but I don't know what to look for as in problems etc.

If I'm correct the 97-98 had the 3.1L in them? I dont know.

All the help will be great.:thumbsup

Thanks

97 + GTP's had the S/C 3800

Gt's had the N/A 3800

SE's either the 3800 or 3100

Watch for intake gasket problems.

There are no GTPs with 3.1Ls from the factory. The Pre-Gen 96s had the 3.4L.

Common problems include fuel pump resistor going out, valve cover gaskets leaking, lower intake gaskets, and various bulbs going out on the dash (mostly steering wheel controls).

Nothing too major ever goes wrong with these cars.

also if you keep them stock or mod then right there very reliable :)

Like everyone said if you're looking at 97-98's the GTP's didn't come with the 3.1.
If you're planning on doing any mods. go to www.zzperformance.com DO NOT go to intense.

You spelled it wrong. Isnt it supposed to start with an 'SH'...then I think an 'I'.......then 'TENSE'?

Ya I want the 3.8L SC, modding would be to a minimal, you know the basic stuff. This was my 2nd choice if I didnt get the Camaro Z28 but now I want a DD and something safer for the baby now since I started a new job.

Anyone know a where I can get a GTP for a good price with decent miles?

I join Club GP but it seems like they pick and choose members there cause I didnt get a confrimation e-mail yet.

Another grand prix club is http://www.wicgp.com. Some people say that the 97 have problems. Don't know if it is because of the new body style or what.

go with the 99+ imo, 97s are a nono overall, 98s are okay, but the 99s and above had nicer toys. Clubgp is a waste of time imo.

freds is a coupe anyway...

I've been pondering getting a new ride... ;)

I need a truck more than I need a car. Now that I work only 4 miles from my house I give a rats ass about gas milage

99 was the best year they made them, then 2000. 01, 02, and 03 sucked because GM cut corners and made them cheeper (took parts out of them).

97 and 98 they were working the kinks out. So 99 and 00 were the best years to have.

I agree in 97-98 they worked the bugs out but my 01 GS seems fine so far:thumbsup
