I found this mushroom in my yard today, it measures 9" across and 7" tall.
The most amazing thing is that it grew OVERNIGHT! It wasn't there when I cut the grass last night. WTF??:wooo

It's called a puffball. They grow like weeds up here.

Cut it in half. If it's nice and crisp and white inside, its edible. Cut it up in edible chunks, bread it in egg and soda cracker crumbs and fry it in a little butter.

TASTES AWESOME.

I've gotten ones that are roughly twice the size of that one, but by then they've usually spored inside and you can't eat em.

Puffballs and Hushibrettas (spelling??) are the only 2 we know how to identify that are safe to eat.

I wonder if it has any health value or is it just good to the taste? I don't think Ive ever seen a mushroom that big. They don't really grow much in my subdivision. I see tiny mushrooms sprout in my yard if it rains a lot, but thats about it.
