I get an e-mail from my wife last week asking if I know who Carroll Shelby is. After explaining his importance in automotive history she proceeds to say "Oh, we got an autographed picture of some new Mustang Hertz is renting, we were going to throw it away since no one knew what it was".

Insert girl-ish scream here.

Looks good;

Well... Not doubting your wife, but... I have several items that Shelby has signed for me, in my presence. That does not resemble his signature....

I'm not trying to be a ****, but it is too compact. My wife was looking at this and she thinks that it "could be" his signature but it's way out of proportion to how he signed several things I have in my office. I was just looking again and it just does not look right. I could be wrong, I hope so. But his aurograph is valuable, and like Brett Favre, people have been known to forge it.

"I am not saying Goat Roper's wife forged it!"

LMAO, seriously? I am not going to break down into tears but if Hertz IS handing these out and they are bad, I am sure someone would like to know.

Well, here's what stands out in the pix you posted originally- look at the "E" in Shelby and it's got no "loop" whatsoever but the "L" does. That's the opposite of how he signed my items.

It just looks way different to me. As I said, not trying to be an ass, it just stands out. Maybe I am the only one who sees it...

The last name looks different, don't you think?

sigs can differ when you are doing one or just completing 50. He might have been lazy by the time he got to that one.

That's what my wife said too... Could be the thicker marker also.

All the stuff I have, the sig looks very similar, and he signed them at different events/functions.

Guess I shouldn't have mentioned it, but it stood out...

That's what I'd say. But I'm no expert.

Well, if you compare all three of them, there are differences that vary between them...

Could be because of writing instrument, how many being signed, etc... Just as what's already been mentioned

In '98 at Elkhart Lake during the BRIC weekend I bought a pic of Carroll driving his #98 Ferrari he drive in '58 (which he later autograpged that weekend) and it looks very similar to Ropers but the "C" overlaps both "r"'s.

Hertz just sent the ad slick, this wasn't a Hertz office, it was the company my wife works for.

You must realize that of all the people there my wife is the best with cars.....and she only knows to say things like "Ooooooh, THATS a pretty color!"

Along with that, you never sign your name the same way twice....I could go into the scence behind it but, lets just say they said the same thing on csi and the learning channel

How about the fact that age/arthritis have set in?
Maybe it was signed on the hood of a car, or some putz' back?
Perhaps he injured his hand buttering toast that morning.
Get back to work.

You could sign your name 3 times...
and they wouldn't all look the same.

no... but they should be pretty damn close.
My mom's is about 99% match everytime, insane.

Greg's vs. Hertz = way off. Especially the "oll" and bottom of the 'y'.
Probably injured his hand trying to get it around his fat wallet. That'll do it everytime!
