Since I moved to Fl I have always wanted to see a live launch, well thats been done now.

I highly recommend to see a live launch in person at least once in your life. I have always watched them from TV all my life and now that Im living in Florida I finally got my chance to see one in person. Now I wasn't expecting to see a close up shot as you would on TV but something just as good. I wasn't disappointed, I will be going to see every one now. But I think next time I am going to go on KSC grounds to watch from their observation deck.

These pictures were taken from Jetty Park about 10.8 miles from the launch site.

This image below was taken about 2 minutes after liftoff, you can barly see the srb's seperate but can make out the main engines. It looks like a star to just right of the center of the picture.

Sweet!

How loud is it at 10 miles? Does the ground shake that far away?

That's awesome! I hate how they don't make such a big deal out of it anymore. I remember them bringing in a tv for us to stop our school day and watch a launch. It's a shame, when you think about it, it's a big deal to put those things in orbit. It dosent matter how long we've been doing it or how "common" it's become, it's still a big deal if you ask me. With all the crap on tv these days, you would think something like this would inspire kids of all ages to be proud of what we can do as people.

I wonder if I can be a door gunner on the space shuttle.............

I've seen a few in person...parents have a joint near RON JON. Also saw the Shutle fly piggy back over the beach returning from CA on a 747.

It's not that loud but yes you first feel the forund shake a little bit then the sound comes and you can hear a sonic boom faintly. It all takes but 2 minutes to watch the entire thing.

Im kinda pissed there were no good looking women down there. Im either doing it at KSC or cocoa beach next time for more of a view.
