Yep...Aurguably GM's best looking body style ever. So which version of which do you think looks best?

Myself, it was tough b/w the buick GS's and the Olds, but, olds for the win :thumbsup

The GS is sweet and gets my vote. Although the '70 Chevelle has always been a favorite too...

I love the Cutlass Supreme/Covert body style. But don't like the 442 style that much.

So I guess I'd vote Poncho.

G-Body didn't come about until 1982.

They where considered A-Bodys...

The Monte Carlo was originally created as Chevrolet's answer to the new A-body Pontiac Grand Prix, which had been introduced to great success for 1969. For the 1968 model year, GM had instituted a split-wheelbase policy for its A-body intermediate cars: 112 in (2845 mm) for two-door models, 116 in (2946 mm) for sedans and station wagons. The Grand Prix was a two-door coupe riding a special 118 in (2997 mm) version of the A-platform (known as the "A-body Special"). Rather than add the extra length within the body to increase passenger space (as was customary on sedans) the A-body Special spliced the extra length between the firewall and the front wheels, creating an unusally long hood.

The 80's G-bodies I know a bit about:goof
I could have sworn I've read in the past that the monte and GP back then were refered to as G-bodies.
Oh well doesn't make a difference anyway. Other than metric fasteners is there really any difference between an 81 A-body Cutlass and 82 G-body one? It was typical GM retardedness to come out with a new platform and give it the name of an existing one and then change the name of the one that already exists.:goof

Sweet, there's another first gen Grand Am owner on the board.

My vote goes to the 69 Judge, or a 66-68 goat. What are the differences with the 66-68 goats?

There's a 70? GTO for sale in Grafton. I think it has been for sale for awhile.

Any more info on the 70 for sale?

It's on Main st(I think that's what it's called) in Grafton north of the Shop Ko and Sears on the west side of the road. It's light blue; looked decent from the road.

70 cheville ss with the 454 and the m22......need I say more? To me that and the 70 boss mustang were the early 70's....

you realize the complete dash assembly from a monte fits into a malibu.that was a cheap way to get the "SS" look with the round guages. ALL other chassis parts are the same also, including rear end.

Anybody ever see the brown one that was for sale at JTM Motorsports in Muskego? It was a 73 Grand Am, it had a built 400, GTA wheels, and they wanted like $1800 for it. This was like 5 years ago, I kick myself for not buying that damn car. :(

I'm 99% certain 70-72 Monte's are A-Bodies....I know for sure 73-77's are *A's*.

I can't even decide which is the best looking....all of them in their high performance trim are too damn sexy. Ultimate appearing a-body would be a 69' H/O IMO. If I win the lottery someday I'll get one of each GM flavor :).

The 70-77 Monte Carlos and 69-77 Grand Prix's are G- Body. Any part manuals will confirm this. What year did they say they were special A-body?
Granted the dash will fit but the reason they were called different body style is because some were longer, wider, and just had different styling. Yes the chevelles, LeMans, ElCamino, cutlass, and Grand Ams are all A-body's but if you Put a Monte next to a LeMans you will see a big difference. But by all means prove me wrong I will accept the fact that I don't know everything but I fairly confident in my A-body knowledge.

G-Bodies didn't officially start until 1982 when they changed the chassis to metric. But generally people refer to all 78-88 Montes/Cutlass', etc. as G-Bodies.

My top 5. El Caminos rank high for me, seeing that in the mid 80's till 93 my dads three cars were a '86 Monte SS, a '66 Elky w/ a high strung 327/Turbo 400, and his '55 Bel-Air w/ the 350/Muncie 4-speed, then around 90 or 91 he sold the monte, and the '66 Elky was his daily driver, but I can't remember for sure if he drove it thru the winters. he didn't care so much about the elky's value, he already had the belair since '78 and that (still) isn't going anywhere.

1. 68+ GTO
2. 65-66 El Camino
3. 69-71 Chevelle
