yeah I know this belongs in the truck forums, but people read this forum more frequently and I need some quick answers.

Here is the quick rundown of whats goin on today:
walked in to the ford dealership, had a quick conversation with an old friend who is a salesman. I heard about their 0% interest until sep. 5. I got excited and looked at a few trucks and found one I really like. an 06 Powerstroke, with the 6.0. With trade in on my 02 Z71 and after they pay off my loan, and roll the remaining small amount of the loan into the new one, id basically be getting a 3/4 ton truck for about 100 bucks more per month then what I have now, and I feel I am getting a lot more truck. Here is my hangup.... Whats the word on the 06 6.0's? I know for sure the 03's and 04's had isolated major issues. Some people I talked to that have over 40k on their 05's say they love it and would buy another in a heartbeat. Honest opinions with factual information, what do you guys think of them? Heard anything bad?

I have not heard many bad things about the 06' 6.0 powerstrokes. as you said the early ones were junk. Although the duramax GM's had just about as many issues those first few years.

As for the 0% ford has the full 6 years and GM is at 5 years max, that would probably be somewhere around 50 bucks different a month

There have been many changes since the 6.0 came out. The 06 powerstroke is a great engine, my dad has one he loves it never had a problem(with the engine). Like badls1 said look into the GM's also ive heard many good things about those too, but im not a big Dodge fan. Im pretty sure Dodge, GM and Ford are coming out with new engines for the 07 model year if you care to wait.(Fords making the powerstroke twin turbo i think)

6.0 l are garbage, i work for international and they are actually the ones that make those engines, nothing but problems they already have a new engine comming out to replace it.

Hrmmm I guess we must of just been lucky... 70k worth of abuse and no forms of problems... All we did was change oil and add gas...

x2.
If you want a Ford then wait for the 6.4l TT motor.
Rumor has it Ford is looking at dual turbos, meaning a small one and a big one in a sequential setup, rather than one for each bank.
That 6.0 block is a load of crap.
A decent 7.3 is worth more.
I know they have improved it recently...but a pig in a prom dress is still a pig...

MY Brother has a 06. F250 with the Powerstroke and he hasen't had a single problem with it. Well except for the badge that says "F250" is peeling so it's now just a chrome square. he has 28,000 miles on his truck. He hauled a Camper from Wisconsin to Bristol TN. For a Nascar race and back. And he Went to a Nascar Race in Michigan And carried the camper and hasen't had a single shutter yet. Well except the price to fill the tank. He get's about 17 Miles to the galllon incase you were wondering.

yeah I think im gonna go for it. I was diggin around on a diesel forum today and most of the guys that are complaining of problems seem to have 04 and older 6.0's, and the guys with the 05 and ups are enjoying them 100%. Some guys have well over 50-60k miles and use it to pull a trailer for a living, some are modded to the hilts, and all of them like them. We'll see what happens.

oh, i thought i'd throw this in too. As like everyone else is saying The OLD 6.0's suck. My buddy has gone through 2 motors and 3 sets of Head gaskets as well as some other things. but he beats the piss out of that truck. and it is pretty modded.

Everybody has incentives going right now. If I were you, I'd get myself over to a Chevy or GMC dealer and price a truck with a Duramax. IMO, it's the best diesel on the market right now, and this is coming from a guy that likes the Cummins powered Dodges.

chevy is only doing 0% on a 5 year loan. I probably couldn't safely swing that kind of a payment, with or without interest. The Ford I found is equipped plenty for me, looks nice on the outside, comfy on the inside, and has a monthly payment definitely do-able for me.

What does the payment end up being?

with nothing down, about $620 a month and thats with a 3 year extended warranty past the manufacturer's warranty. so the truck will basically be warrantied for the entire time I have loan on it. Now I dont expect to be paying $620 a month, because I will be putting some money down.

I was browsing eBay and there are quite a few 04 05 6.0L's with 100k-235k miles

Yes, 235k Miles...

Possibly a misprint, but... who knows...

no, kind of a long story. I'm going to hold off for another 6 months or so maybe. I got approved but turned it down because I didnt qualify for the 0%. Gotta try to get some other chit paid off first, then I'll try again. When I do go for it again, I'm going to order an absolute brand new one instead of settling for one that is on the lot. That way, with a brand spankin new one, first one to drive it is meee :D
