thats one hell of a camera, shutter speed is fast enough to capture the spokes of the wheels.

yeah but I didnt want that... I started to experiment some...

I had the camera on Av (aperature priority) and kicked up the F stop to bring down the shutter speed to about 1/400 and then pan the camera with the car so you dont loose that sense of motion. that can be kinda hard where they are zipping by at 120 to 180mph+

the first pic above is
Exposure Time : 1/400 sec
F-Number : f/7.1
Exposure Program : Aperture Priority
ISO Speed Rating : 200
Exposure Bias : 1/3 EV

you just need to slow the shutter down more thats all. You have more "throw away" photos from doing that but the few that you get that will be sharp will be well worth it.

I think I just said that.... :confused

you can't just slow down the shutter without increasing the F-stop... you'll over expose.

but your right about, "you'll have more throw aways"

A monopod would of helped, my camera is a tank with that 200mm lens on it all day long.

Umm I think you misread what I was saying. You need a SLOWER SHUTTER.:rolf Compensate for the overexposure with a smaller aperture if you have to. NEWS FLASH: The key to more motion is a SLOWER SHUTTER :burnout

Slower would just freeze frame everything... I didnt want that... I want spinning wheels and blurred crowd. Otherwise it looks like its standing still.

Come on J... I know how to handle my camera

We haven't scene any pics from you that are not standing still...

Yeah that was a burn.... :banana1:

what are you talking about? A slower shutter will "freeze" the action? How do you figure a shuuter of 1/125 will have less motion than a shutter of 1/400th? Show me ONE example of this.

Here is my "motion" shot with my frozen action 1/40th of a second shutter:

here's some good reading about how to master the panning shot....it also discusses the importance of the SLOWER shutter.

:durr you got me... I confused myself... I know what I ment and said it the wrong way.

Slower shutter yes. Getting back to what I orginally said though, I was in AV mode and by increasing F-Stop, it will automatically bring down (SLOWER) the shutter, and I don't have to concentrate on correct light exposure.... again we're saying the same thing.

[/end thread hijack please :goof ]

By my calculations, J is up 2 to 1. Andy, you do have any other burns? If not, round 1 goes to J.
