stored car + florida = surface rust ...Does Not Compute... :goof

There is a lot that does not compute with that car, it was allegedly stored in a climate controlled garage up on blocks, yet the tires dry-rotted and have been replaced, and there is considerable surface rust in the engine bay as well as underneath???
The guy who was selling it claimed the first 200 GNX's built went to the FBI to be used as undercover cars. :rolf He also claimed he was the original owner, when in fact the car had changed hands several times.
Probably has a few more miles, but the speedo cable was not hooked up...

florida does have a little bit of a humid climate..... perhaps that could contribute to surface rust? idk.

yeah. that too. seriously though, could that cause a car to have surface rust after 19 years if its never driven? any bodyshop guys on here to enlighten me?

Not if it was really stored in a climate controlled garage like the then seller claimed, there is lots of speculation about this car's authenticity in the turbo Buick community.

If it was truly just a nine mile car that would be wrong. Just my personaly opinon but cars like that are meant to be driven. I don't know how you could buy a car just to take it home and put it in the garage never to drive it again. I wouldn't be able to sleep knowing that's sitting in the garage.

exactly. although back then, who knew the grand nationals would be so popular? I know they were limited production cars, and were good muscle, but now when you look back and see how highly they are held up above other cars.....

If I had cash to piss on and burn id probably have bought one of the first 05 stangs to hit showrooms and put it away for a long time. I bet someone did. We'll find out in 20 years :D

i agree i think it is bogus
1. it needed engine work
2. the rust is probably from the salt in the air as it was being driven with the speedocable disconnected.
3. the fact that most of the info given was bs

my dad always told me if it sounds to good to be true it probably is!

i actually think it could be legit.

1.it needs engine work..if a car sit's for damn near 20 years..no way is it going to start up right away.

2. surface rust..a car that sit's in a humid ass garage for so long will eventually start to rust..plus it's surface rust not to much to worry about.

3. i believe that it was in a climate controlled garage.. when it got hot he opened the door.when it got cold he closed it..still climate controlled just not the way you think it is.:goof

although back then, who knew the grand nationals would be so popular? I guess since I'm old enough to recall the late 80's :D The GN's were quite desirable and even semi-collectable back when they were current. Yes, people drove them, but also knew they were something special. It's no surprise to anyone they appreciated in value.

The GNX was an extremely hot commodity from the day it became known it would be produced. It was also very limted.

This car (if legit) is just a typical example...the few people lucky enough to get their hands on a GNX, bought them as collector's items, not to drive. I'm not sure I've even seen one in person, a testament to it's rarity.

All things considered, stored cars are often in much worse shape than driven cars. But still, low mileage plays a huge part on a collector car's value, which is why ultra-low mileage rare cars like this are often found. It's not something you'd want to buy and drive...it's pretty much destinied to be a garage queen forever.

if not 9 miles it has to be low low miles. we just did a full inspection and estimate. the thing is sickly mint besides the "storage" issues. I don't know many people that drive with the original window stickers on the window and plastic in the car....
