Anyone self ported their throttle body? Just yanked mine off tonite, wholy shiat this mofos restrictive!!! It goes from like 75mm by the blade to 65mm then opens back up. Gonna level it out all the way from the blade to the opening.

:thumbsup

Anyone else done this?

Very nice!! Did you cut half the rod off the holds the throttle blade? I did dunno how much it helped tho.

I spent about 30 bucks on new bits for my dremel and some 220 grit sand paper. Was on it from 10pm to 3am this morning. Then wokeup and sanded a lil more. It's nice and smooth now.

Throttle response is insane now too!! Half throttle = spinning tires :(

I did mine. Make sure you don't overfill the idle air port with epoxy. I did that at first and it was fine until the cam went in. I had to take it off and grind that crap out. Also make sure you don't port around the area where the blade rests....leaving a gap even with the blade when closed. It gets close there.

I had this one done

Is there really that much of a difference or is it more of peace of mind knowing every mod has been done?

I'm sure it helps a little bit, but didn't notice anything. When you have 300hp, you're not going to notice 3-5hp in the seat of your pants. I did mine, just like you said, to know it's done.

I never had it on my car. hell i have the ls1 intake going back on it :)

It makes a diff in responce is about it, your essentially increasing velocity or CFM into the manifold, that creates a very mild supercharging effect. Thats what gives the better responce.

Larger engines are in need of it, as the stock 75mm TB is a bottle neck.

i have a stock LS1 engine :)

hahaha, i might as well put a stock shortblock in it, would go faster.

anyways, i've heard both sides, that they have felt it, and others who said it wasn't crap. to me, on a stock TB i don't want to mess with it, because the ACTUAL throttle blade will always be the same diameter. so that SAME restriction is always there regarding size. so porting the front/back area and the time spent, to the edge leading up to the blade, just isn't worth it for me.

IMO there is a big difference in throttle response. Spins em in 1st alot worse than it did before too.

thats kinda what I was thinking

Right, you cant physically get TOO much more in due to the size of the hole. All your doing is speeding the air up going in through that small hole, via a smoother "funnel effect" if you will.

i got a MTI ported and polished.. i got it mainly for the looks under the hood but it did make the throttle response alot better and i think it made it idle a little better also..

from past experience, it seems that the venturi effect increases velocity a bit.

does anyone make a 90mm throttle body for the LS1's?? one thing I remembered between the LS1 and LS2 GTOs was that the LS2 seemed quite a bit more responsive, but I'm not 100% sure if thats just due to the computer controlling the throttle for me.

yes they do, I have a TPIS one that is a 90mm, but it is a 4 bolt pattern for the FAST LSX manifolds, custom intakes, and LS2 intakes(since they have the 4bolt)

Fast makes a 90mm, as well as NW
