Talk about getting one's attention. I thought the dragster lining up backfired until I felt the heat from the fire.

Too much nitrous pressure I was told.

Was right along the fence line when it went off. He was trying to purge it for a while before it blew. Unreal!!!

damn,BUG'S car got messed up, i think a nitrous solenoid was hung open making it go lean.

Sorry for any initial confusion on the purge/no purge aspect I stated, I was told he did not try to purge but I removed that statement.

If you notice how high the flames were, I was standing right at the window in the tower, doing the webcast (the west window, which was open) and first I heard the KABOOOOOM, then felt the heat and the flames came up to that window. The orange glow was unreal.
It was louder than the report from a jet car.

What that incident illustrates, is how dangerous it is when all those people crowd the starting line. That sheet metal intake could have become a projectile.

I counted roughly 15 seconds from the initial bang to the fire being out, thats pretty quick.

You can see my orange shirt in the video, I ran right out of the tower, down the stairs and grabbed an extinguisher. This was different than that Corvette awhile back, eh? ;)

Only thing is, the shut-off switch should have been thrown a lot quicker...

i was looking at the drag car, and then BOOM it caught me by surprise. i thought the jet car was fireing up.

i didn't see it happen i was on the other side of the lot talking with myles and we were both like WTF was that. walked from behind the trailer and saw fire. it was crazy. glad to see he is ok.

DAMN...... I think I just watched it 10 times back to back...... love how the guy on the right jumps when he hears the report...... :)

I think that caught us all off guard,all I remember is BOOM and looking at Greg like WTF and seeing flames and feeling heat thinking the tower was on fire.Thanks for the video,it's nice to get a look from the outside and see exactly what happened and just how quickly everyone responded.More importantly,I'm glad to hear Bugs ok and nobody in the crowd or on our staff got hurt.See you at the next RSD....Rob:headbang
