So, back in June I decided to quit my job, drive out to colorado and visit my family, plus help my uncle with his company. Anyways, the 1048 mile drive was utterly boring, and the month long stay was incredible. Then I had to drive another 1048 miles back with extended family from out of the country :durr :durr which was :sgay to me, and that seemed to take forever....

Anyways, took a $hitload of pics on the way and there, just thought I'd share.

My uncle lives in Lookout Mountain, about 10 minutes from the Coors Brewery....yuk....and a less than 5 minutes from the Mother Cabrinin Shrine.

The drive there:

Mmmm...wisconsin....

Thanks! The house is awesome. Only downside is there is no A/C. They have the inground pipes for the heating since all the floors are concrete, but no HVAC since the entire house is concrete. On a good note though, being almost 6000 feet up it stays fairly cool at night. :cool

How much was that Taurus? Did you get his number? I'm interested! :goof

Is that a modified ABB robot arm? I spent a few years in designing and building robotic polishing enclosures, thats stuffs awesome.

seriously, nebraska is THE WORST drive ever. i've always driven to st. paul, northern wisconsin, etc my whole life, drove to Louisiana once, Nebraska is terrible. Straight, long, and the scenery is always the same.

The house is my uncles, yes it is a bad ass house.

The arm is made by KUKA in Germnay. My uncle designed a fully automated palletizer, and the arm is one of the few pieces he contracts out for.

Thats cool stuff, I was big into robotics for a long time, its amazing what they can do. I worked mostly with ABB and Fanuc robots, I have never heard of KUKA until today :durr. I know you said you worked with your uncle there, are you going into that field here?

Sorry to hi-jack your thread. :)

Nope, I was just helping out, the first week was some HR stuff and warehouse safety manuals, etc... the last three weeks I was redesigning his website, but I'm still trying to work out some bugs from here now....it's a pain.

yes, it definitely helped with the trip.....I was quite surprised at how comfortable it was.l

68, I didn't see the hang glider in the pic until I first uploaded it to the computer either.....just took a pic of the view, and happened to catch him!

Wikked: i came close a couple of times around some of those hairpins. I did take the drive one more time, this time there wer no bikers, and I made it down in about half the time.....makes me wish I still had my S2000.

hahah...thanks.

Coors is OK, I gotta go with miller though, just cuz. I'm not a big beer person in general, so if I'm out, I always go with Leinie's Red.

cool pics..

did you notice that your car felt like a total ***** up there and breathing was wierd? like more effort needed for the same air??

johnny--2k
08-10-2006, 10:45 PM
yes and no. I definitely felt the car was sluggish until about the last 2 weeks or so, but personally I feel great when I go out there because I haved asthma, so the humidity here kills me.....

RedGSX, there is actually quite a bit to do out there, and night life is suprisingly a bit livelier....we went to a bar and it was just 5 of us, the bartender, and two other guys. Anyways, he brought out a beer-pong table and we played for about 3 hours....it was a total blast....
