BP shutdown their largest alaskan oil well today to fix a leak. One can only assume prices will jump $0.20 again. Granted you can't do anything but pay it anyways, but it's still wise to fill er up before prices rise.

Meh, they'll go up 20 cents a gallon and then not come back down anyways. Whats your hurry? :rolf

this alaskan pipeline supplies only 8% of americas oil. I bet they will raise the price 20 cents a gallon, they look for any little reason to raise it.

As if they need a reason to raise gas prices. They can go up $.20 in one day but they will only come back down $.02. :chair:

Isn't it nice to know that with all their record profits they aren't maintaining their equipment?

I wish I owned a business where my "mistakes" allow me to charge more and make more money.

they make record profits... yes, however if you break down the price of one gallon of gas, the federal government takes more money in taxes on one gallon of gas then the oil companies make in profit.

I was back in Iowa over the weekend, paid $2.85 a gallon for 89 octane (which is cheaper than 87 there). Needless to say I filled the tank far beyond it's recommended capacity.

meh, shouldn't ever be a budget deficit then.
If 1 oil v.p. is making hundreds of millions on profit, then the gov. should be making 10x more than that with the taxes pooled together from alllll the companies.

Great. I'm driving home on friday. 1023 miles from my driveway in Beaufort SC to the house in New Berlin. This is going to get expensive.

Newspapers are saying 3 to 5 cent raise per day, honestly I think we're just going to see a small raise then a very large one towards the end of the week. Prices will then go back down by maybe 10 cents and some other "disaster" will happen.

Oil companies...raising prices if an executive sneezes wrong.

Sweet, with any luck, a hurricane will come and wipe out refining in the south, thereby sending it sky high. On the bright side if that happens, someone could win free beer in my hurricane contest :)

Heh, I have one, yet I'm looking for something less efficient cause I'm sick of not being able to prevent people from passing me.

I hear ya, the Prizm don't exactly have much passing power... Not like I'm use to any anyways... :rolf :goof I just figured I'd say it before someone else did...

Heh, I took the non-efficient vehicle this morning and some jag middle aged guy in a minivan was trying to pass me. He was willing to go 100+ mph to get around me... too bad for him his car simply couldn't get up to that speed fast enough and was forced back behind me (i was flowing same speed with traffic). He was fuming back there as far as I could tell. Just makes me feel really happy I could help someone start out their day like that :headbang :durr

My car's been parked for the past week... I should probably take it out for a drive tonight... Make sure it's all in one peice... :rolf I put 700mi on the Prizm in the past week... at 35mpg avg that makes me feel good.. seeing that otherwise it'd of been 20-22mpg... 20gal ($64 approx) of gas instead of 35gal ($116 approx)

Well I hope it doesn't get too hot, because then I take the wagon(18mpg) or the truck(15mpg) like last week. My GP (with broken A/C) gets 24mpg, and could use a tune up.
I drive about 80miles/day just back and forth to work, that's too much car time (~hour each way) to ride in a little crackerbox just to save a couple bucks.

my silverado is gettin about 15mpg with the ac on. it sucks. 26 gallon tank. although with that 5.3 liter, I dont feel much draw from the engine with the ac being on :) with my mighty powerful s10, I can sometimes prevent people from passing me if I downshift 1 or 2 gears. that thing likes to zing high rpm's all day long. I swear its a honda....

My poor truck hasn't seen the road in over a week since I registered the Escort GT I picked up. First tank averaged 36 MPG, mostly Hwy. :headbang I think the slight power steering fluid leak makes it more aero-friendly on the bottom of the car. :goof

Side note... At this rate, it will pay for itself in less than 3 months;)

Like my old man said. "Let the damn gas prices go up to 40 bucks a gallon, the hell if i care. If I have the freeway to myself cause half the junk out there cant afford to be on the road anymore then thats fine with me." :rolf

I was thinking today, is there a theoretical maximum to the gas prices? If it gets too high, lower income people won't be able to afford to buy it at all, and that would lower demand would it not? Granted this theoretical maximum is probably somewhere north of $10/gallon, but still. It'd be nice to think there's a limit to how high it can go :)

Heh, I should short market a bunch of transportation company stocks. :)
