My little brother got a "Playing in the street" ticket in Meno Falls. What is the maximum penalty for this? It seems a tad trivial for the village to request a court appearance... But hey! what do I know.

Also, is there anything he can say or do about this?

What a crock of ****, its actually written in Wisconsin Law

Sec. 90-3. Playing in streets.
No person shall play in the streets of the village.
(Code 1963, § 7.07(1))

Oh wow! Thanks for the link :D.

He went on the street for a second to avoid a branch on the sidewalk (skateboard).

If thats what it was, then I would definatly take it to court. That is bull, cop was probably having a bad day.

How do you say the double § symbol?

Also, they will have to define the word "play" in that particular context. Unfortunately, I have to work tommorow during his court appearance.

Its tomorrow already? Their court system is on the ball.

Just have him go in and explain the situation. If the cop that wrote him the ticket has any balls, he will be there in court. If your brother did what you say, he will be sent home clean and clear.

Yeah.. But it's a waste of time, that's all. He has to be accompanied by my mother (provision on the actual ticket) and that's a waste of her time, too. He's doing research right now, though :)

Again, thanks for the link!

and i know it seems i bash the cops in some way lately. i don't hate "the police", i hate the ones that give dumb tickets and waste time on things that do not need attention. i wanted to become a cop, but never went through with what i wanted to do. i really wanted to be a U.S marshall or a cop that would be cool. ahh yes its just a dream.

Well, he went to court today. It was either $104 or 15 hours community service. He chose the fine and was done with it. The guy (prosecutor? idk who he is) agreed that the law was poorly written, but the only thing to do about it is to have my bro go up in front of the village board. So... Yeah.

****, I'd rather be speeding, go into court and get my points dropped with my fine increased to that much. Running a stop sign is only $76 or so. Imprudent/unreasonable speed is around $100ish, too. Both of those violations would be more fun than getting into the street for a sec, and going back on the sidewalk.

Thats ridiculious. The law shouldn't have been written at all.

I was expecting an "obstruction to traffic" ticket rather than playing in the street.

When I was younger, I was guilty of that 300 out of the 365 days in a year.

Well, the thing is, there was no traffic at the time to obstruct.

In Menomonee Falls you cant skate board its ok to rolerblade have a razor scooter just about anything else. Im sure your brother knew about geting a ticket for skating in the falls if your from there he definetly knew. And finally yes, the Falls cops dont have anything better to do and the village wont buld a skate park. Sorry to hear what happened its so sad.

they were gong to build one by the teen center....but the people of the falls voted no to it, they felt it would cause more problems...the falls has been this way for years...we cruised out there in the late 70's and into 1983, we would sit up in kohls parkig lot(now block buster on appleton ave) till wee hours of the morn and then go home the cops would come in and hassel...they still have nothing better to do...hell they have a motorcycle cop...what for?...any ticket you get there is bull and if you take it to there kangeroo court....you loose.....sorry to hear your brother got burned...but thats the falls

Yeah.. I know man. It blows. I got a nice ticket for imprudent/unreasonable speed and even with a lawyer they only dropped 1 point.
