SDS, rotarty hammer term ??????

What does SDS stand for when refering to rotary hammers ?

I'm looking to purchase one off ebay and well the type I use are spline rotary hammer.

I know the SDS bits look different but im just lost on finding the meaning of SDS.

I betcha the answer is in the open im just to blind :thumbsup
