It's almost that time again biotches... and in my typical no taste ways I am creating the 2006 central place for all your cheering-on-the-hurricanes needs. The stages are set, and the 2006 season starts in 14 days. :banana1:

In case you need a refresher... here's Last year's thread (http://www.brewcitymuscle.com/forum/showthread.php?t=8351)

These are the names of the 2006 'canes... who will it be? Who will "bring the noise" the year?

Alberto
Beryl
Chris
Debby
Ernesto
Florence
Gordon
Helene
Isaac
Joyce
Kirk
Leslie
Michael
Nadine
Oscar
Patty
Rafael
Sandy
Tony
Valerie
William

I say it's Isaac... he gonna be da man with the damage plan on 8-16-06. Target: Mobile, AL area. That's my prediction anyways. You heard it here first (someone quote it so when I'm right you can all bow and kiss my hurricane controlling ass). :banana :headbang :banana1:

What's with all these names from the 50's? yeesh.

I'm gonna pick Leslie for some good ol' carnage on 8/25.
Place: New Orleans, because they didn't learn the first time.

I think that Ernesto and Rafael are going to do the most damage seeing as those are both names of many illegal immigrants.

SOme of you, if you really wish to try to win the beer, need to give a specific point of impact, like a city, etc. "Florida" is too general for me to spot you a case of beer.

Ha ha, well they said that this year will be a repeat (or worse) from last year. The ocean temperatures are still very warm, making for another interesting year. The power of Mother Nature never ceases to amaze me.

8/19 is Nadine. It will be big slow like this one lady at my mom's work. It will cross the Florida weiner and then make real landfall 20 miles west of Pensecola Florida.

BIG and SLOW! We might even hear that choking noise in the wind like the morbidly obese people when they manage to breathe for another day.

Neg rep points comin my way!

Ah yes, the 'cane center has predicted 4-6 "major" storms for this year.

2006 Hurricane Prediction (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060522/ap_on_re_us/hurricane_prediction)

Good thing they always err on the side of error right?
Like last year:

So does that mean we'll have like 10-12 supreme hurricanes this year?

Look out Florida.

Looks like people want the pain brought on N.O., :banana

You might be able to petition me to put you into the contest if you post up by the end of the day today... but you have a post a cool pro-hurricane pic that proves you're really into cheering.... and of course your prediction.

CEDAR KEY, Fla. - More than 20,000 people along Florida's Gulf Coast were ordered to clear out Monday as Alberto — the first tropical storm of the 2006 Atlantic hurricane season — unexpectedly picked up steam and threatened to come ashore as a hurricane.

06-13-2006, 06:08 AM
That's sweet.

Check out my ending to the article:

"TS alberto went through the florida wang only to come out on the other side and strengthen into a category 4 storm where it made a second landfall in south carolina and tore $hit up some more. "

Man this hurricane season is bunk.

So far only 3 people hangin on in the contest, and it's gonna take a damn miracle to have that many 'canes.

What a crappy year for us pro-storm guys. :( :(

Nah thats not nearly as cool. Tornados are more random and widespread through out the midwest and some other areas. The whole reason hurricane cheering is fun is because they really only hit the costal areas yet people insist on building houses right on the beach where they know they will eventualy get hit.

I drove from New Berlin back to South Carolina today. When I got about 30 min from my house (about a mile from the coast) it was raining. They said on the radio it was from whatever tropical storm is off the coast right now.................... don't think that counts, huh?

animal
08-24-2006, 07:31 AM
Er, TS debby is way the feck out in the atlantic, no way that's from that storm.

The previous TS ended 8-5-06 down by cuba, so I'm pretty sure that's not still looming around.

Yes! We are hoping for a "few good storms" here at work to drive generator sales, they have been builiding and stock piling them forever now.

Hurricanes outta be good for companies like Caterpillar too, they can always use more bulldozers down there after every storm hahahah

I just got this in an email from the base here in SC. We're getting ready!

As of 1300 today, the MAG has set Hurricane Condition IV. This means that Tropical Storm Ernesto, currently 35 miles North-Northwest of Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, is indicated to build to hurricane strength (sustained winds greater than 74 mph) and also is indicated to be a threat to our area within 72 hours.

You dont know the half of it. Right now CAT engines are in huge demand. Pretty much since Katrina hit CAT cant keep up. At work I deal with emergency generators for Hospitals and right now the larger (1000 kw and bigger) have a 52 week minimum lead time which is just insane when your trying to plan a project. About a year ago some genious at Fabco prepurchased a bunch of engines and now they are selling them at like a 25% mark up to people that cant wait 52 weeks.

Yeah at Briggs here the largest they make is a 15K home stand by. But they 5,000 watt portables are among the heavy hitters and they built the hell out of them in prep for this year, if there isnt at least a couple storms the company will be hurting having to sit on and warehouse all these things. Some heads will roll i think in the forecast dept lol

If you were trying to get in on the contest, then A) You're way past the due date for entries and B) Debby is already a named storm and is done, or nearly done and is nowhere near land.

I'd say he was a genious. :wow He could prolly get 50%.

Im guessing there is a limit on how much extra they can charge and call it a premium shipping time before it becomes price gouging. Either way I think most of these gensets run upwards of $200k so %25 is still a pretty big hit.
