long story short, my front cover gasket went on my GP, ( there are oil and coolant vains running through it ) so they are mixing. and I dont know how long they have been. well im modded pretty well that I dont want to just band-aid it ( new gasket )since it has 138k on it. so I got a new ( to me ) long block.

my question is, since this motor IS used, I want to clean off the carbon off the top of the pistons while I have my heads off the rebuild them.

what should I use to clean them off SAFELY?:confused

thank you in advance :)

looking for lol 12's for a daily driver..w00t w00t :headbang ( I know, not as fast as most of you, but still! )

brake cleaner should make it run off scott, its abrasive enough, then it evaporates cause its alcohol based

i don't think brake clean is going to get the results you want.

there is top engine cleaners, combustion camber cleaners that would work better

I read that top engine cleaners DONT work when the motor is disassembled..reason being is that the chemicals in the TEC is mixing with fuel.... seems stupid...but also seems logic?

it depends on what ones you use, i use a lot of the mopar brand Combusion camber cleaner, it is a foamy spray. If you let it sit it works well on piston.

otherwise assmble your motor, let it warm up, and run ATF through the intake. Smokes like no other, but cleans carbon great!

i know that SEA-FOAM is what i used on a friends 78 camaro but that was running, not sure if it will take off the carbon when disassembled:rolleyes:
