I've been posting on the VWvortex forum for some time and, as I am already aware, parts are not common like a honda or mitsubishi.

What I do not like is how the 'chip exchange' regulates everything. If you want a certain amount of performance, you buy chip 'x.' What really sucks is that you need to end your ecu away to have them transplant the chip. Also, the computer on these things control alot more than on japanese cars and limit what you can to a greater extent.

The known solution to this is the stand alone, and there are a few companies out there manufacturing them, but I can't find out who makes them.

Any Audi/VW insiders here?

Yeah I am familiar with most of the chips. Stay Tuned is looking into being a GIAC flash center. Here is a rundown of some of them...

APR - Very smooth program, not as aggressive as GIAC but very reliable and offers VTUNE (A computer program that you can download, plug into your car and tune every aspect of the car even further than the origional program.

Revo- Revo supposedly was sued by APR, APR says that Revo copied their programming, but it is not tuneable.

GIAC- The most aggressive chip of them all, as long as you get the X+. Chip against Chip GIAC X vs APR is neck and neck, but X+ out of the box will pull pretty hard. However, you can tune your APR program to be right next to the GIAC program.

There is an APR dealer in Glendale called Apline Import Specialists. Very nice guys and they don't have an install fee.

Is that kind of the info you are looking for? Let me know.

Awesome!

I was planning on jumping into the EMS early on because there is not point in buying replacement performance parts as I work my way up with this car. I'll probably start spending once I my integra is sold. Originally, I was going to do all of the internal engine work before I go and sell my D/D, but I have to buy some other things first for my ITA car and a racing suit.

I'm really pumped about this car! I came across a 200 hp one the other day and I'd have to say it had alot of kick to it.

My plans are to put some lower comp pistons in along with some better conrods before I get into some real power. I am not going to buy a turbo kit off the net because I can get much better components (manifolds, fmics) from local shops for a lower price. Others, I will make myself. I was considering making my own fuel injection system with multiple injector per runner. For that, I would need a system which can understand what is going on there.

So you are leaning towards the 1.8 turbo motor? MANY people run the T3/t4, Ko4, or GT28 without any internal motor work. A t3/t4 setup on a 1.8t reaches about 300 hp on stock internals, and the torque is rediculous. I'm sure any internal motor work done on top of the BT setup will yield some pretty crazy gains.

Edit: I am kind of bias towards APR because I have it and love the tuning program, but I think as far as tuning the system the APR setup would be easiest. GIAC has a program for the Ko4 turbo (audi TT) but you cannot tune it beyond that. APR has a BT program as well for the GT28 and T3/T4 I believe.

uh...u forgot unitronic...my buddie with a GLI 1.8T is plannin on runnin that program and he has a 57 trim t3/to4e on his car...we put the kit on the car and it runs pretty well without tunin but he already has the GIAC x+ program so that helps...whatever you do dont get the neuspeed p-chip...its a sad chip...my buddie lined up against a neuspeed car and walked the **** outta him with 5 people in his car and only one in the other guys car.If you dont want to spend time sending the ecu out in the mail id suggest goin to dubwerks.com and checkin out what they have to offer.thats where my buddie got his chip from and they only took an hour or so.oh yeah there about 45 minutes away in illinois but if you set up an appointment you can do down there and be back in a few hours.good luck with the car.

Yeah I don't know much about that chip so I didn't write anything about it, thanks though. P-chip is junk.

Is that Jetta Silverstone gray? I was next to one that stayed right next to me and sounded pretty badass.

I'm not interested in any of those 'send-away' chips. I also do not want a piggyback system. I am only interested in a replacement ems.

Yep. 20 valves-fo-fun!

I am interested in replacing the pistons with lower compression ones because I do not like the idea of running boost at such levels on an engine which already has a fairly high comp ratio. Beyond that, I want to do some rods because the pistons will be out anyway and they are the weakest part in the engine when passing the 300 hp mark. I also like rpms...this is a 20 valve...it breathes better...4 cylinder engines are supposed to spin high. :D

I honestly don't know what options you have as for replacing your ems. Even the best turbo kits come with the APR or GIAC software for flashing your ecu. Other than that I don't know. Sounds like a kick ass project though.

his car is a platinum gray 04 GLI....if you want power and some fun then get the 57 trim or the gt28rs kit...they are proven mid to high 12s.as for the motor i dont think you will need to tear into it...those motors are strong stock and i cant see you pushing more than 28psi of boost which is what unitronic is capable of....the best my buddie went at the track with stock turbo was 14.4 but that was with traction problems, giac x-plus chip, ghl downpipe, aem intake, forge 007 diverter valve...

Well, I was thinking about my options and found out that the complete replacement systems will take away novelties such as cruise control.

Tough decision. Piggyback or stand alone. I'll do some calling tomorrow to see what is available.
