I need to find a shop out here that can do some work on a ram for me. As some of you may know the hemi rams come with a muffer and a resonator. I need a place that will remove the muffler and replace it with a piece of 3" pipe. Midas quoted me $50 to do this but that seems a bit steep. Lincoln Muffer and brake wanted $75. Any input or help on this one guys?

$50 is less than what alot of shops charge for an hour of rack time alone. I've seen some charge $60-$70 just to raise the sucker off the ground. I'd say go for it or else go get the pipe and clamps at Farm and Fleet, grab your sawzall, and go to work. I've done this one myself and in nice weather it's an alright job but weather like this, I'd be shelling out the $50.

$50 sounds cheap, I doubt you will find anyone to even lift the truck in the air for less than that....

Walk out to lot, drive truck in on rack, cut offending pipe and
walk over to bin grab 2.75" pipe, expand to 2.810" (actual size)
slip on truck, hook up "antizapper" so not to kill your computer,
weld 360* front/back, check for leaks, park truck and make
sure its cleaner than it arrived..................

$50! Im gonna have my work done there as I cant do it and
pay my own sallary at that rate!

I seem to be catching some sarcastic comments here. The muffer is a center in and out, no offset. Prices as far as exhaust are expensive out here if $50 is honestly a good price in this area to slap a straight 29" pipe in place of a muffer. It only cost me $100 to have my custom exhaust on my truck done from the headers back with me supplying the muffler when i lived in So Cal. This isnt rocket science, you dont even "need" to lift the truck to do this. The muffler is held in place with band clamps, it slides right out in less then 5 mins. This job would honestly take 15 mins MAX to do. If any of you have a welder and would be willing to let me use it id appreciate it, ill just do it myself. $50 is rediculous for what is being asked......

aren't you finishing up your shop? I'd assume you'd have a welder there.

I'd also assume you'd have 220/230/440/460 power in your building already, ready to go?

I dunno....$50 sounds pretty good to me. They can't do it for free.

Maybe it's just me...but I would figure that sombody who's got two blown car/truck and is a "mechanic by day" could figure out how to put a simple straight pipe on.

Was that too harsh? :stare

Ummm I think $50 is a fair price if you're out sourcing... They're a business they have to keep the lights on somehow... And giving stuff away isn't how...

Im not trying to be a jerk......But what does it matter what it costs when you have a RAM with all those great goodies??

Me personally, my main concern would be a guy who knew his stuff working on it, even if it cost over $100.

You usually get what you pay for.

This is not going on my truck, it is my girlfriends truck. Totally stock, just want to wake it up a little. The truck is equipt with a muffler and a resonator from the factory, remove the muffler and the resonator becomes your new "performance" muffler per say. Has proven to gain more power then any of the competing aftermarket exhaust systems except corsa on a "stock" truck.

When I had to do just the same thing to my truck ( pipe in place of cats instead ) I just got the pipe my self, went to the muffler shop and had them
expand the ends to fit, then went back home and installed myself. They charged me $10 and end ($40 total) I thought was kind of a rip, but say $20 for yourself is better than $50. Thats what I would do. Maybe cut the muffler off first, then take it along and say you want the pipe expanded enough to slip over the end of whats on the muffler. My friend did the same as you are to his 05 Dakota, sounds pretty nice acutally, would only think that the larger displacement HEMI would sound better.
