Alright one of my friends is trying to get the motor rebuilt in her '93 Toyota Pick-Up... It's a V6 and she's wondering where to take it... And I figured I'd see what y'all had to say...

Get a remaned unit from Jasper's....much easier than having it rebuilt for that vehicle, unless she was going for all-out performance. Jasper's even has a "performance" option rebuild if she wanted...probably just a little higher compression, better tolerances, better valve job with a little cleaning of the ports, along with balancing and better fasteners.

It's a V6 with 130K... They're known for blowing head gaskets, something about the material...

i work at a toyota dealer in the service dept. dont get a used motor chances are they have the old design headgaskets. has the recall for the headgaskets been done. are you sure its a headgasket issue. is it siezed up or water locked. the water jacket seal on the headgasket shifts putting coolant in the rear cylinders the headgasket design changed 3-4 times that i a aware of. tell her to call toyota cust. asst. line have vin ready. 800-331-4331 they can tell if the recall was performed its recall number is ssc-vo6. the recall extension was only for eight years from the original inservice date and they may not do anything to help but its worth a shot. otherwise if she wants help with repairs-rebuild let me know if i can help.

Yeah, she decided to not listen to me and wait a day or two so they've already started pulling it out at the place she took it to... I'm still amazed... $6200... For a Jasper engine and installation...

That's what I told her... but she gave me a lecture on how she knew what was replaced on her truck blah blah blah... I don't give a **** what was replaced... putting $6200 into a 13 year old truck that has a resale value of half that isn't a good idea... Unless it's something fun, not a dd, it's not worth it... lol

Alright, I got the answer from Toyota and Wilde Toyota I figured I'd get... Toyota referred me to Wilde, so I called them and spoke with Mary Doherty. Mary explained to me that with a truck that old, even with the recall being performed that it should be normal for things like that to happen. I think it's insane, but not my call... Aren't Toyotas supposed to be reliable? I mean it's only got 60k on it after the headgaskets were replaced... I'm going to probably call Toyota again tomorrow...

Reverend Cooper

i cant believe that. all you can do is keep trying and tell the that its only been 60k miles ask for a district manager to get involved

Spoke with toyota again today... They "took notes" and told me to contact Ms. Doherty again... I informed them that she was of no assistance and that I wanted to speak with a district manager, and the man on the phone informed me that the only way to speak to a district "service and parts" manager was through Mary Doherty. Once again they informed me that they couldn't do anything and that Mary would have to do something, and there's a good chance that she will just disregard it since it's a 13 year old vehicle. I find it funny that they replaced the factory headgasket in 1998, after 5 years, and then 7.5 years later it's out again... But looks like they aren't gunna do anything about it... Hey Coop, you've got a PM...
