View Full Version : Opnions needed
Im looking for opnions on which car would be better to buy.
1. 1999 Saturn 4 cylinder (bottom of the line) with 40,000 miles (automatic tranny) Selling for $3,000.
2. 2001 Pontiac Grandam GT ram air (all options) 50,000 miles for $5,500 dollars, the catch with the Grandam is on one side it has a blown head gasket (not leaking into the oil tho) but if I do one id do both of them.
Let me know what your opnions are on these vehicles and which one would be a better suit for me for a daily driver and winter car, thanks.

Why are they junk ?
injectors.. intake manifold gaskets... lifters i think? piston slap... its a dinosaur engine
Im not looking to much for resale or speed, I already have my mustang to play with and beat on. Where should I look for decent vehicles that would be reliable ?

Hahah i sure wasnt implying speed with the honda comment!
Maybe some sorta 98+ cavalier (NON Z24) or a focus... cheap, good mileage, and fairly reliable.

:rolf I know I have 3 different post on 3 different sites and one of the other one said go with the Grandam cause its faster LoL
Get the saturn.
It wins with economy, reliability, price, and it will resell at a resonable price as well.
IMO- The only problems with a saturn is that they look like they've been beaten with an ugly stick! I bet the interior of the GT is much better than the Saturn.
If you are looking to spend 5.5k on a car that needs some work, why not consider other cars in that price range that are a bit older but running in great shape.

I'd also vote for the saturn... I almost bought one a few years ago... is it an SL or SC or ??? In my opinion as long as they're not beaten to a pulp they're reliable cars...

I would say the saturn also, they have some issues too but not nearly as many as the Grand Am (or as I like to call them, a 'job security vehicle')......

Saturn.
I wish I had that video of the silver saturn with a turbo walking all over the H/C camaro. It's a good one, anyone have a link?

If the saturn is a DOHC you'll burn a lot more oil than the standard SOHC. I would definetley go for the saturn as long as its in good shape. Nice cars with good gas mileage for a good price, also pretty easy to work on. Check the oil level between oil changes!!! at 70k miles my gf's car burns through about a half a quart every 2k.

Ive worked on them all, Saturn for turn key no issue
driving. Slow and sure, better milage.
The GA chasis will rattle more, the head/intake will leak
over time, fuel would be worse. The GA wont just die
on you without warning, its just has irritating issues with
higher milage vehicles.
