It's the most simple description on how to swap a cam and heads. It's nice to see some LSX things in there, even if the article is not the most helpful. They do it on an 02 Vette. They throw AFR 205 heads with a custom grind cam. With long tubes and drag radials they ran an 11.78 @117 1.79 60 at Milian Dragway. They said it dynoed just under 400 hp.

The specs on the cam would have been nice to know. Oh, they put in SVO 30 lbs injectors, and put in new plugs and wires. It says they were 20-25 hp short of their 400 hp goal. The tranny was a 4LE60.

Ya I thought that was pretty cool too!! Times are nice too.

I'm not really impressed by the times, but they are decent.

alot of factors that go into the E.T. of course, but i know ALOT of people doing that time with just cam only. If it's still a stock converter that'd explain ALOT. Toss a small one in there and it'll be a low-mid 11 easy.

Thats about right. I went 11.4 @ 120 with 390 rwhp. 1.6 60 ft witha decent cam and all the supporting bolt ons. 6 speed though

they didn't factor in the stock 10 bolt magic show....the elapsed time to take a stock 10 bolt and convert it into a bunch of little pieces and a super cool vent in the rear diff cover.

3.42s I assume?? Did you have any weight reduction?

They didn't mention what rear gear the vette had.

In GM High Tech Performance(*Edit, not in S3) there was a GN from West Bend. Blue on top, black on the bottom. It says it ran low 11s at 111. I'm pretty sure that's what the article said, but the mph doesn't make sense.

Nope nothing major weight reduction wise. 4.30 gears and a 12 bolt. 3400 with me in it. wouldnt go past 12.1 with the stock 10 bolt with 4.10s, kept busting torsen carriers in two.

A few of us know that guy on here... that guy lies like a rug about all. That GN must have had the steam of a 7 sec drag car for the first 1/8th mile then coasted the rest of the way to go 11.12@ 110 like the claim says.... Where is that BS flag??

Stock LS1 heads?

I remember something like LS6 or aftermarket heads are only worth 30 hp. Maybe less.

I gained 34 rwhp from some cnc'd 5.3 heads- same dyno, before a tune.

HAhahah no... im embarrased about those #'s

Thats was with an LG motorsports cam and a patriot performance 5.3L heads 66cc.

never had it dynoed since, but with a bigger cam and the stock heads, on the ass dyno it felt like it gained 20-30 rwhp all over.

Stock CI engines dont seem to like aftermarket heads with much larger than stock intake port size. Anything with a 205 cc intake volume and just bowl porting seem to work best and actually see gains.

That heads and cam setup is on Z14kids T/A and it made similar results, i dont think it made it over 400 rwhp either.

I run bone stock heads now save for springs.

390whp? dang thats low.

edit, reread. damn tom, as is my car should make 350-360whp, and w/ slicks I can't see any more than a 12.6 outta it. stupid IRS and heavy car & driver.

heh... the thing could make 5 rwhp for all i care, as long as it runs a # in the 11s somewhere on motor... i dont care.

Aint like my **** is light... but it works... idk

i really need to ride in your SS sometime.

come springtime I wanna try for mid 12's w/out any mods.

currently I hold the #3 spot on the ls1gto.com stock '05 1/4 mile times, I want that #1 w/out any mods.

opps, got edged. down to #4 -- by .001

funny all the stock 04 guys times are right with the stock 05 guys. then DRs really help them catch up from that HP deficeit.

I'm working on weight reduction for the car and driver, don't know how far I wanna dig into it, i.e. remove bumper supports, etc. I've found about 100# of useless crap that does nothing to remove -- skid plate, belly pan (on back of car, basically plastic cover piece that covers back end, gas tank brace, Monaro towing hitch hardware. then theres the back seat, been really thinking about buying a rear seat delete kit, since honestly the back seat is pretty much never used. thats the easy stuff. maybe the spoiler should come off. :goof

what do you racers typically pull off your cars and leave off?

How much do you weigh? What's your best 60 ft?

i'm a fatty, I'll admit it, around 350, and slowly dropping, quit soda, quit all fast food, thats a start. been starving myself here and there. I'm sure the drinking on the weekends isn't helping any.

best 60' I ever cut in the GTP was a 1.92 - left at 1800 rpm, feathered throttle till I could floor it and kinda hook -- automatic
best 60' I cut at the track in the goat was a 2.04 -- left at 2k, feathered/dumped clutch to roll out, barely avoiding severe wheel hop and blowing the run. Tom and others have talked about 4k launches being ideal for this motor. I can't see how w/ this IRS on street tires. To me, thats just an instant smoke show, or wheel-hop city..

thats on stock street tires,

thats on stock street tires,

It aint gonna have it on street tires unless u really use up alot of clutch.

Drag radials will work provided u dont shock the tires loose an cause them to start spinning, with slicks well anything goes...

These motors arent like LT1's where they have instant torque off idle, they all bog out of the hole and that kills the 60 fts.

Go on to www.ls1tech.com and visit the drag racing section. there is a sticky that is the weight reduction post that lists EVERYTHING you can possibly think of to remove from a car. then you can pick and choose what you want and don't want
