EVERYONE does it....

EVERY SINGLE CAR DEALERSHIP/MANUFACTURER DOES IT to boost them higher than your local competitor's website. It's the SAME thing millions of people do everyday on Ebay to help people find their auctions when searching.

It helps boost them over sites that may be like, "and she was then bent over her BMW and bent the fender to her BMW and was seen posing on her BMW, blah blah blah" and it picks up on that number of words and shows it as a site.

they want you to PAY more now because of their weak earnings. Pay more to have a higher spot? If someone searches BMW, why would ANY other site get first pickings over the manufacturer's site?

I give google props. They are finally trying to create a respectable standard for search engine optimization. No tricks, just the real deal.

Because it's based on popularity.
Basically, the more links you have -to- your site from other sites, is what mainly increases the PageRank value.
Yea spamming same color keywords as bgcolor will increase it as well, it's alot easier to do that, which is why people do it.

My site (wikked.com) has a PR of Ø, now that all the bondage porn sites have taken down the dead login/passes that dont work anymore lol 1998.

On the other hand Jason's site (lilevo.com) has a PR of 2, which is pretty damn impressive for a personal site. Due to the massive number of sites & msg. boards linking to his videos/etc.

The higher the PageRank, the further up in the results your site gets listed.

Right, but i'm not asking WHY it happens, I guess I'm asking why when a business is there that someone is OBVIOUSLY referring to, why would they allow any site to come up BEFORE that site?

So let's say mitsubishi.com is what someone was after. they type in mitsubishi, and they get Jason's site ONLY because of the number of links of streetracing and other random videos are on the site. They get that site FIRST with the actual Mitsubishi manufacturer site somewhere else down the line. To me that's just stupid, and it takes the bullshit that you guys are referring to, to combat that.

I can understand where they are coming from and what they are trying to do. It definitely is a positive, but looking at it from the other side that this company has to deal with the small time BS websites that are getting more links to it soley because it's some message board like e46fanatics.com.

I can't say I've ever seen a non-official company site on top.

For products with the same name it happens, because Google doesn't know you're looking for that specific brand, unless you toss in so many keywords that it couldn't possibly be the other brands.

IMO they should have the official site at the top no matter what, with a horizontal rule under it, then let the non-official sites fight to the death underneath.
