Can be used or new but my budget is $150-$175 for a digital camera. What do you experts suggest? I would print alot of the photos of the kids and prefer as much mp as possible if that matters. There are sooooooooooo many choices out there its mindboggling, so any good suggestion is appreciated.

I have a cannon A85 I think it is in your price range. I really like it, it is easy to use it can take video. That would be my suggestion just from experience.

:thumbsup please dont judge a camera by how many mega pixels it has.

I have an older Olympus C-2100-UZ and it is only 2.1mp but it takes far better pics than alot of ones that just advertise big MP.

So many other questions need answering first.
Do you want it to fit in your pocket?
Do you want it to take standard AA batteries?
Is zoom important? (digital zoom dont mean jack sh!t)

you can do your own homework here

Canon PowerShot A520 4.1MP w/ 4X OPTICAL zoom
Review (http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/read_opinions.asp?prodkey=canon_a520)

can be had for around 150 bones

I'd lean towards the A85 too , but I cannot find the A85 in that price range, from a seller I am familiar with. I really dont care for alot of those Brooklyn, NY ones.

Both are discontinued. The A85 and the A95 have been replaced by the A610
which is 254.95 at bhphotovideo.com
linky (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=productlist&A=details&Q=&sku=397425&is=REG&addedTroughType=search)

if this is for pictures of the kids... dig deeper and go for that a610. :thumbsup

I finally broke down and bought a used olympus camedia d580, 4.0 mp. My old 35 mm minolta broke its shutter about a year ago and the 5 dollar walmart special I bought to take some pics until I bought a new one wasn't cutting it. I was needing one to take pics of sidejobs I do. I am pretty happy with the camera, but didn't come with a cable or software and new cameras that were similar in quality were selling for just slightly more then what I paid for mine. My brother got a cool pix 4 mp for christmas for around $150 and think its a decent camera, haven't talked to him about it yet. I heard good things about canons. I was looking for a canon powershot, but ended up getting the olympus. Unless you plan on doing really large prints, don't think you need a real expensive camera with a lot of megapixels. I read reviews on cameras on epinions before I bought mine on ebay, You might be better off just going and buying one instead of on ebay. So many people bid on digital cameras. I was watching several that got good reviews and the olympus was the one that didn't get overly high in price.

i have a very simliar Olympus to the above mentioned. as long as you're not zooming in all over the place, it does very well.

I have a Sony Cyber-shot DSC-P100 that I paid $220 for last year... 5.1mp... I like the camera, but I guess some people don't from the reviews I read... idk, I think it's nice... and has a Zeiss lens... It still don't compare to my toy at work, but it's nice, fits in a pocket, and snaps some nice shots... I took a bunch at the Fall cruise with it... lemme see if I can dig some up..

are you talking to me smart guy? You shoot with a digital Rebel. Would you like to post some of your FAAAAR superior photos then for us to take a look at? I would bet that the general concensus would be that I should smash my camera and take up watercolor or something after having seen your stellar photography.

photography wise im a newb...thats the only thing u have against me...so u have more experience in photography, photoshopping skills, and you have more and probably better glass then i do with the exception of my kick ass prime 85mm.. :goof

the nikon d70 vs. canon rebel xt which is better debate is everywhere on the internet.

the cameras are pretty much equal...depending on who you ask.

and since im having fun with this here is some other people that agree with me... :durr

"the two cameras are very evenly matched, however whether we like it or not the Canon is the more advanced..."

"It is true that I have seen greatly magnified and heavily cropped photos of XT which are slightly better than D70 because of the higher resolution "

"The Rebel XT and the D70 are great Cameras, but if you put them head to head with two photographer that have the same skills and take the same pictures, The photographer holding the XT has a slightly higher advantage over the one holding the D70."

"Best choice out of the bunch(Nikon D70, Canon 20D, 300D) b/c it has the most to offer for the least amount of $$$. Picture quality superior to anything I've seen"

cnet even reviews the rebel higher...

Oh no you didn't go post some internet garbage Dave...So what you are saying is that a 5 year old with down syndrome could take a stellar photograph if you handed him Nikon D2X because he equipment is superior? The quality of the photography relies HEAVILY on the person taking it. Nothing else. Your equipment can ENHANCE (or detract if you don't know how to use the equipmetn). Thats it. There was a guy at my old job that used a Nikon P&S and sold them for $100 a print at craft shows and not ONE person asked him what camera he was using...you would SWEAR they were taken with a fancy camera...when in reality they were taken with a $280 point and shoot. You have so much to learn my friend.
