What size is your oil drain plug ?
I was just changing the oil in my F150 and grabbed the metrics 14 15 17. Hmm 15 too small and 17 too big so I try 5/8" . Perfect.
Hmm seems a little tight comming out but not too bad.
Drains oil.
Put plug back in can get it to "snug" but not good and tight, then it'll loosen again :fire
I think the last person that did the oil change stripped it out and used one of those "repair" plugs.
And the last person to change it was the F-ing dealer I bought it from, when I bought it :fire :fire :fire

Maybe I should "tack it" on :rolf

That's what I'd do. Just weld the plug back on...when you want to drain the oil, simply remove the oil filter and start the car up...it'll drain in about a minute or so...then put a new filter on it, fill it up with oil, and you are good to go :thumbsup

The old acronyms for the name FORD are literally flying through my mind as I read this. ;)

And no, the first one that came to mind was NOT "first on race day"... :rolf

Ya I agree, it is defiantly Ford's fault for the stripped out drain plug!

Yes the plug is a 5/8. What I would do is inspect the plug itself and see if it is damaged. At worst run a tap through the pan. I have heard of 16 year old kids at dealerships using impacts for the drain plug . (especially a GM dealership!) :durr

Well that's good to hear that it is 5/8. Odd that's the first non metric drain plug I've seen in a long time.
I still like my Ford. :banana1:

It's supposed to be a metric 16mm. if you didnt already try to tap it out and put in a oversized plug, do that. I've seen some cars using a "pan saver" but thats usually the last step before replacemant of the pan and not a long term fix.

Edit- Sometimes you get lucky, check the plug and make sure that the threads are still there if not you might be able to twist the plug threads out of the pan and just get a new plug. I've seen it before, good luck!

I was thinking of getting another plug and trying it,since it seems good right till the end. Can't be more than a couple bucks, and another $15 for oil. So far so good, I had to drive it to work today and it held. Maybe I'll get a new plug tomorrow.

Yeah, most cars now use metric plugs. The only long term fix is a new pan, and since it is a brand new truck, I would opt for that. Even if the plug took most of the hit, the threads in the pan will still be damaged.

Should have gotten a GMC.

I thought about a GM truck, I just didn't like them as much.
